I don't have a regular 9-to-5, so I don't work for a full-time employer. While it is true I am often peeking at the Classifieds and Google here and there for a new occupation, I decided that puppers and kitties are how I am occupying myself. Let's be completely frank, dogs (animals generally too) are better and more interesting than human people. I would much rather work for them and work with all the awesome pet-parents I've met through Rover. In addition to a dog-walker, pet carer, etc. I am an aspiring essayist and write copy as a freelancer on occasion. As far as my daily schedule, it's usually pretty set in its ways, but adaptable. Routine is very important in anyone’s day. For me, various routines are starting to become an increasingly beneficial way to have something predictable in an increasingly unpredictable world. After years of perfecting my routine with my best friends’ (my step-dogs, my friends refer to me as Auntie Pat) I’ve realized that sometimes both pets and humans thrive on structure. Pets thrive on routine too, and it is a great way for them to look forward to something like a walk or a trip to the park. In a cat's case, whatever they decide is worth looking forward to on their terms. Just have to remember to sometimes break from it, sprinkle in bursts of random tugs-of-war, bribes (I mean treats) and have spontaneous adventure time out in nature!

While I don’t have pets of my own (yet), I am a very proud single plant dad. I am an above average apartment gardener. In the past several years, I was fortunate to cohabit and eventually be invited to travel with my two best friends and chosen family. Mike, and his boyfriend Ryan and their two mostly perfect dogs. They are the esteemed group who have bestowed me with the moniker "Auntie Pat." Finnegan is around 14 and Apollo is about 12 years old, old timers! Finny is a Beagle/American Pit-bull mix and is an adopted rescue doggo when he was a few years old. Finny is the sweetest, lickiest, most handsome boy, if a bit of a goofball. Apollo is a foundling from the dumpster area of a shopping center in the Southwest suburbs. He is a min-Pin/Chihuahua mix and has opinions, a true diva. These four-legged fur balls have become like family, teaching me that, “Who's the good-est?” isn’t just a question. They live in Orlando now and come fully decked-out for all occasions, complete with Pride flag bandanas, Disney merch, sweaters and puffy-coats when visiting Chicago, raincoats and boots, or tacky Halloween costumes. Prior to my experience with Finny and Pollo, I had zero idea how to care for a dog, let alone two dogs with the exact opposite personality (and size) to each other, mentioned above. It took time, but I listened and followed instructions and over time learned how and when to have fun and when it might be better to be firm. Caring for them has deepened my affection for our furry companions, made me realize that dogs far surpass humans in anything not requiring opposable thumbs. Today, I am fortunate and grateful to be flown out to various locations around the country a few times a year to care for my step-doggo(s) as the need arises. It’s like I’m their personal assistant, only for house and dog sitting. I'm a very low-maintenance human. We all have that one friend/sibling/co-worker who won’t feel a way about running through puddles, nosediving into a shrubbery, or snowdrifts, doesn’t mind the sudden intermittent compulsion to smell and take inventory of every (insert your dog's favorite item to “study” in nature here). I am a Nintendo nerd and carry my OG Switch around with me, I love quiet and spending time on my own, which is perfect for things like house-sitting and drop-in visits. I love the park and Lakefront, which works well in all kinds of seasons for long walks and playtime outside. Writing outdoors on a blanket with a dog or dogs also on the same blanket. Love a day walking near the lake or a lazy Sunday reading on my balcony. Usually I talk to dogs/pets like I talk to other humans, especially my nieces and nephews. Likewise, I find this is helpful in bonding with new little (and not so little) ones. I come from a large family, and I am the oldest. I watched my younger siblings and was a babysitter outside the family too so I have some experience with communicating to parents about their “children”. Not only that, but I also worked in the service industry for almost two decades, so communication with a client/customer comes very easy to me. Asking questions, sending pictures and updates and a fun, positive anecdote while your pet is in my care is something I am more than happy to do.

Information Patrick M. would like to know about your pet
I suppose this depends on the booking but... When getting to know your dogs it is important to know how the household functions and any health concerns, dietary restrictions, medications, feeding and walking schedules, and how they interact with humans, children, flora/fauna, other pets. Other questions will come up as they come up. As I said in the previous sections, communication is a top priority.
A typical day
Typically, I have a couple dogs scheduled for walks or drop-ins each or every other day, depending on the week. I usually get up at the same time every day and never stray far from my local neighborhood unless I have a pup in a different part of the city. I am not a big partier or a clubber or anything, and I cook and do normal at-home things at home. Often I'll try to spend a couple of hours writing or looking for part-time gigs or freelance work. In the afternoon/evening, I will call my Chicago family and my Orlando friends at some point. When house-sitting I usually try and set a routine that works with the one already established in the home, only deviating if I have a prior commitment. At the end of the day when i am caring for your pets I'll shoot off a quick message with an update and some pictures, or do it first thing in the morning.

It’s me, Pat!
Pet care experience
For the past few years, I’ve served as a full-time “auntie” to my chosen family’s dogs. Ensuring meals are prompt, walks are punctual, and that no toy remains unchewed for too long. My duties include door-opening services for indecisive canines, expert-level belly rubs, and acting as a human nap cushion when required. Compensation has been paid exclusively in slobbery gratitude. That being said, I’ve decided to start on this app as my favorite people aren’t people. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of caring for two distinct canine personalities: a cuddly yet occasionally aloof, dark-lord, min-Pin/Chihuahua mix and an ever-enthusiastic Pitt/beagle/blend. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the delightful quirks each unique mix brings. As a pet sitter, I’m a whirlwind. Lots of compassion, patience, and adaptability, ensuring your furry friends receive top-notch care tailored to their unique personalities. With a keen eye for detail and a sense of responsibility, I create a nurturing environment where pets thrive and owners can rest easy.
Reviews

Patrick was very easy to work with and very communicative! I felt very confident that Axel was in good hands with him! Will definitely book him again!

Amazing dog sitter - thank you!

Patrick came thru for us again, even with short notice. Killer doesn't really even like other people and yet he runs to Patrick. Warm energy there, I think. He did a good job taking care of Killer. Thank you!

Patrick was a delight and our animals were instantly in love with him, it was like leaving them with family, thank you so much!
