I didn't start this lifestyle because of animal welfare, but it has become the bedrock of why I'm gladly continuing it the rest of my life. The value I place on our furry companions is higher than I value myself as they do not have a voice. Therefore I practice intentional interactions with our furry companions by listening to what they need. Not every dog needs a mile walk during our half hour minimum session. Some dogs prefer to sniff every delectable scent, and that provides them the most happiness and stimulation. This is the intuition and advocacy I bring to every interaction with your furry companion. I treat your furry companions as family, because they are family. ARYA: Let me tell you the story of my rescue pup Arya. My wife and I were told that she was a lab mix and that she was about 5 when we adopted her. Arya was very relaxed at the Humane Society but at home her entire demeaner changed. We found out that she was likely more Akbash than Labrador. A more energetic and protective breed. This translated to many stressful walks as my wife and I discovered Arya to be very leash aggressive. At 70 pounds it was a lot to handle. I discovered out of necessity how to sooth Arya on our walks and avoid conflict interactions. You never know the trauma our furry friends have gone through! With this knowledge I approach all of our fuzzy companions with the same compassion and respect. This way they can trust me, and together we can have an amazing time on walks or overnight visits. Arya is no longer with us. Don't worry, she's actually with my Mom on her farm! She needed the space to roam and our condo was too small for her large personality. My wife and I are now cat people. I love them all so much!
