Pet care experience

Big or small, love them all

I care for special needs pets that other walkers won't. My clients range from anxious small dogs who need patient socializing, to huge and reactive ones who aren't easy to walk, and all in between. Try me if you want a fairly tall and fit guy who can handle it all. I do one-on-one, no groups, and every pet gets treated like my dogs. In 2010 I started volunteering to walk dogs at the SF City shelter, and adopted my chihuahua Diamond. She's now a veteran for bike rides in my backpack and more known than I am in cycling groups. My second dog Comet was an "unadoptable" shelter dog who bit from defensive anxiety, until he got socialized with patience and love to be a best friend for life. Avery was third, a yorkie-chihuahua who was a client - his owner asked if I knew any place to rehome him and I said no way is he going to a stranger. Siri is an elder shih tzu who I took care of for someone who ended up abandoning him, and I rushed to rescue him when I found out. I never planned to have 4 but that's how they all got a forever home together. This is a job for love more than money, it's a healthy addition to my 20 years of self employment as merchant, teacher, artist and writer. I love helping you and your pet while doing the miles outdoors rain or shine. I am pretty flexible for any days, any times. If you have a need apart from what my calendar says, reach out and ask. I can do other services like house sitting, rides to the park or vet, LATE night drop in, or custom drawn pet portraits for frameable gifting. I live close to Fruitvale BART and love nearby clients I can ride a bike to.

Safety, trust & environment

I have done many jobs with perfect ratings for respecting and protecting your security. For sitting I need very few amenities (a couch works or a guest room is great). For drop-in, ask me for a meet & greet to discuss in person. No charge for that. I'll rely on your instructions and only mix your pets with mine if you think it's OK. My pets are small, old, and sleep a lot.

Pat was a great sitter for Decker. Provided lots of photos, cuddles - and our shy cat even loved him! Very much appreciated being able to have a stress-free night out without having to worry about the "kids".

Schedule

My career is self-employed so I can be very flexible to help on short notice. I'm available to visit your place, usually inside 15 minutes drive from mine. I usually don't board at my place, but there is a fenced yard here and small guests can work.

Cats
0 to 15 lbs
16 to 40 lbs
41 to 100 lbs
over 101 lbs
Pat can host up to 3 drop-ins per day
You should inform me about diet, behavior, any special needs or triggers for issues, and what sort of activity level you expect. Please tell me if the pet is neutered, un-neutered pets may be turned away. Pets must be in good health, protected from fleas, and collared with name and phone number on it. I'm most likely to work with clients who know what their pets need to feel comfortable and happy, and give good instructions.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
