Compassionate about ALL animals
I just retired on June 4, 2026 as a 5th grade special education teacher in Northbrook, IL and loved working with special needs children. I have been doing this over 36 years. Over the summer I play with my own pets. I currently own a 4 year old dog named Amanda, a 4 year old dog named Shelby, and a 4 year old dog named Dixie who are all rescues. I also have two cats named Jake and Teagan. I am also a foster mother for dogs through K9 Lifeline Rescue out of Wisconsin and love when they find their forever home. I grew up owning dogs of all different sizes and breeds. I love cats just as much as dogs, which is why I own both. I have taken sick cats and rescue dogs into my house and cared for them. I also love taking care of my friend's pets when they go on trips. I am very organized, detail orientated, kind, and loving to all animals large or small. I am also very patient and love long walks. One of my cats had kidney disease for many yeara and I had to give him fluids in the nape of his neck, twice a week. When he passed away I was devastated and miss him dearly. So, I am very comfortable administering medications to any animal. I have taken care of several cats who have diabetes. I not only understand the needs of kids, but I love caring for animals .

Ratings and reviews
We have left our two miniature schnauzers sever times for a month at a time when we take our annual summer vacation overseas. The dogs love Norma and her big beautiful back yard. Norma is great at updating us with pictures and little video clips of the pups while we are away. That definitely helps ease missing our fur babies. Thank you Norma. See you again next summer.
I really dislike leaving bad reviews, this will actually be my first bad review I’ve ever written… First, I wasn’t told that she was going to be gone all day the FIRST day that my dog arrived. When I asked her how he was she only responded with very vague things like “he is an awesome dog” or “he is the perfect guest” there was never any specifics or photos of him even in the house. It was only pictures of him outside. I think what we all look for in a sitter is someone to give your dog love, snuggles, things that make the dog and us owners feel comfortable and cared for. I never received any photos of her sitting with him or spending any time with him. I finally messaged her and said “can you send me a picture of what he’s doing right now” and she said she’s not even home with him that it’s her birthday. Why wouldn’t you tell me this? I didn’t pay for my dog to be kenneled all day. It gave me such bad anxiety while I was away, and I felt so guilty that I did this to my dog. On top of that I gave her ointment to put on his feet every day because his feet are really hurting from the gravel that he plays on when I bring him to work (I work at a dog retreat/daycare) and he came back with his feet terrible and there was nothing even touched out of the ointment. And lastly he came home and drank an ENTIRE bowl of water like I’ve never seen him drink before. He immediately ran to the water bowl. I know my dog, he never does this. He had to have gone without water for I don’t even want to think how long. How can you do this to him Norma? No water? Are you kidding me? I trusted you and you didn’t give my dog any proper care. She’s doing this for the money, y’all. Please don’t book. I feel terrible for letting this happen.

I highly recommend Norma. She really tries to work with shy cats

I highly recommend Norma. She went above and beyond by noticing i had accidentally turned off my heat and turned it on for me. She trys to work with my shy /timid cat that hides. She is wonderful

It saddens me to give this poor review as we had used Norma many times previously without issue. However, this time, Norma was not available/ did not answer the door during the agreed upon drop off time. My husband scheduled the dog-sitting and communicated within days before the drop off time of Thurs 7:30-9:00 pm. There was no miscommunication. I arrived about 8:15 and was very concerned about the dark house. No lights were on to indicate she expected me. I rang the Ring doorbell, dogs barked inside, but no answer. I left a message on the Ring doorbell. I went to my car for a few minutes, and returned to the door. I rang the Ring doorbell again and left a second frantic message begging her to call my cell phone, that she was booked to watch my dog, I didn't know what to do, etc. No answer, no sign of life at the door except the dogs barking. I was very frantic. I couldn't reach my husband since he was on a flight, I had no backup for the dog, and I had to leave early the next morning. I drove the 25 minutes back home, trying not to panic. I never heard from Norma. She did not call me. We did not hear from Norma until my husband reached her on the Rover app. Early the next morning, she said she wasn't feeling well and fell asleep and didn’t hear me because her doorbell is broken. I question why she never reached out to me, why she'd sleep right during the drop-off time, and not hear the dogs and chiming Ring doorbell - twice. Also, wouldn't she reach out when I hadn't dropped my dog off? It really seemed like she forgot the booking and wasn't home. This was very stressful because I had a very important overnight trip which I couldn't miss. I ended up asking a neighbor to help take care of my dog, but I nearly missed reaching her since it was late by the time I got home. I was very lucky to have received any help in time. This incident was very distressing to me, so much so that I think we need to find another dog sitter. What if we had a flight to catch? If this were a longer trip, I would've been completely screwed. Agreeing on a drop-off time isn’t optional. It's a commitment to a job. I'm not comfortable with anyone who doesn't take it seriously. I wasn't cancelled on days before - I was left at the drop-off time - it was awful. My husband has always done the drop-offs, but with terrible luck, this happened the only time I ever had to drop-off. We were long-time clients, so this really makes me sad. My husband would consider booking again, but I'm not trusting for good reason. This was a really bad experience.

Would not rebook

Where your pet will stay
Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
I have a fenced yard and let the dogs out regularly. My dogs love to play ball and fetch. I would play with the dogs I board or take care of at their home.
Pets
A typical day
I can take them to the dog park near my house with my black lab. I also take my dog to different locations like Pet Smart, Bass Pro Shop just to stretch their legs. We can also walk around the house.
