As a teacher, I have a structured daily routine during the school year and more flexibility during summers, which allows me to be consistent and reliable with pet care year-round. During the school year, I am available for morning, evening, and weekend care, and I make sure pets are fed, walked, played with, and checked on before and after work so they stay on their normal routine. In the summer and school breaks, I have full availability, which allows me to provide more frequent visits, longer stays, and extra playtime and attention.

It’s helpful to know their feeding schedule, portion sizes, walk or litter box routines, and any medications or health concerns. I also ask about their behavior—such as whether they are shy, energetic, anxious, or have any triggers like other animals or loud noises—so I can approach them in a way that keeps them calm and secure. I also like to know what comforts them most (favorite toys, treats, or spots in the home), any training cues or commands they respond to, and how they do with strangers or being alone. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can keep their routine consistent and make sure they feel loved and stress-free while in my care.
A typical day
With pets I watch, I like to tailor activities to their personality, energy level, and routine. For dogs, that can include walks, backyard play, fetch, tug-of-war, enrichment games, and plenty of time for sniffing and exploring on walks. I also enjoy reinforcing basic commands in a positive, low-pressure way if the owner is working on training. For cats, I focus on interactive play like wand toys, laser play (if approved), and enrichment activities that encourage natural hunting instincts. I also make sure they get a mix of stimulation and calm companionship—whether that’s gentle play, brushing, or simply relaxing nearby so they feel safe and comfortable. Overall, my goal is to keep pets engaged, happy, and comfortable while sticking closely to their normal routine so they feel secure while their owners are away.

I’m a natural animal lover with nearly 20 years of experience caring for animals. I got my first dog in 3rd grade after working hard to earn all A’s, and ever since then, animals have been a huge part of my life. Over the years, I’ve cared for dogs, cats, rabbits, and fish, giving me experience with different personalities, routines, and needs. I’ve owned three cats over the years, lived in homes with multiple cats, and currently have a cat of my own. I’ve also cared for dogs of different sizes and temperaments and understand the importance of patience, consistency, and making pets feel safe and comfortable while their owners are away.
