My name is Nicole, and I grew up in Indiana where I spent many years caring for my own pets, the pets of friends and neighbors, and the pets of clients at a local doggy daycare and boarding facility. I work in the environmental field with particular focus on wildlife research meaning I also have experience handling a variety of wild animals for monitoring and conservation. I most recently started a job in the south Florida area, and I deeply miss caring for your fur babies! With that being said, if you are out of town this month or need some extra attention for your pet during the holidays, please reach out! Currently, my availability is limited to the evenings and weekends :) Some of my background… I began pet sitting in my own home as a child, where I learned the basics of animal care and behavior through my dog, two cats, and tortoise. My care experience became more comprehensive as they reached old age which translated well as I began looking after the pets of friends and neighbors by walking, feeding, medicating, and of course giving their animals lots of attention while they were away. As my professional career shifted toward wildlife research and handling, my experience in animal care increased significantly. I spent eight months out of this past year working as a pet care tech at a cage-free doggy day care and boarding facility, where I handled all different sizes, ages, and demeanors of dogs in groups of 10-25 animals. I became very effective in evaluating dog behavior in order to mitigate negative interactions in the groups and monitor any changes in their health while they were under my care. On top of this, I spent time bathing, trimming nails, cleaning ears, brushing, feeding, and playing with dogs every single day. Furthermore, I took extra steps to provide notes on each dog’s health, behavior, and their playmates while they were under my supervision so that the owners knew what their dog was up to while they were away! This extra effort earned me the first employee of the month designation the company has awarded in many years. I left this position when I accepted a role at a national park, but I would love to dive back into the pet care world and visit your furry friends! I am comfortable caring for pets of all ages and I will see to their medical and behavioral needs as directed by you-the owner! I love to focus on reducing anxiety and energy levels through the activity most suited to the pet whether that be playing with a particular toy, training, or going on a walk. Furthermore, I will give attention to the pet based on their behavioral cues so not to cross their boundaries if they’re wary of new people. When meeting your pet I will approach them with this in mind as well, and I love to get as much information about their needs as possible.
