I have taken care of 25+ dogs and cats in the past 3 years, to include in home/overnight pet- and house-sitting, dog walking, brushing, litter box maintenance and pill-based medication administration. When taking care of other people’s pets, I provide the attention and care that I was seeking for my own cat and dog (who, sadly, are no longer with me.) My top priority is the safety of the pet, and to that end, I take no risks with the animals in my care – food protocols are carefully followed, walks are always on leash and doors are carefully monitored to ensure indoor cats remain indoors. Nancy knows what it means to leave your fur babies with someone else, even for one day. Apprehension, guilt, fear. And so many questions! "Will this person provide a safe, secure, loving environment?" "Will my pets feel afraid and lonely?" "Will they receive love, attention, proper food and if there's an accident, will it be cleaned up immediately and without anger?" "What if they misbehave because they are fearful and miss me?" I've been work partners and friends with Nancy for over a decade and have first-hand experience in how she treats animals. She is UBER responsible, capable, and filled with compassion and empathy in all her endeavors, but especially as they relate to cats and dogs. She will be your future go-to pet sitter after you try her once...so guilt doesn't have to be part of traveling. Your pets will be safe and secure, fed and loved.
Nancy is an amazing animal caregiver, and I cannot say enough positive comments about her interactions with pets. I am most impressed by her obvious respect for animals as fellow beings, and this respect is evident in the care she provides—she is compassionate, kind, and loving. Nancy is intuitive to pets’ needs and attentive in a way that should put any pet parent’s mind at ease. She is so patient as well, and I have watched her take care of ailing pets and pets with behavior issues. She is dependable and responsible; I recommend her without reservation.
I've known Nancy for 10 years and she is responsible, conscientious, kind and loving. She is also funny and an excellent writer, but your pet will likely not appreciate those qualities :) Nancy is a great communicator and completely dependable. She has taken care of our German Shepherd and I always know she'll show up when promised and treat our dog like she's her own. She has also taken care of our children (ages 4 and 9) in addition to the dog and she handles the chaos with grace and humor. I couldn't recommend Nancy more!

Schedule
As a recently-retired educator, I have a very flexible schedule, with plenty of time for your pets. I am available for daily walks, overnight or weekend house sits (your house or mine) and vacation sits (1-4 weeks is typical).

Safety, trust & environment
When starting a new relationship with a client and their pet(s), I schedule a brief ‘pop over’ appointment where I can meet the animal(s) in the presence of their humans. This helps everyone involved – pets and humans – get to know me and feel comfortable with me before I take on the responsibility for the pet. I take care to be calm around the pets I sit - I let both cats and dogs take their time to warm up to me (come to me when they are ready, sniff my hands, my person, my things). I am careful when feeding animals - particularly dogs - giving them space. I follow the pet's routine - if they sleep on the bed, I let them sleep on the bed; if they like to go in and out frequently, I let them go in and out frequently. I try to make them as comfortable as I can, in their human's absence.
A typical day
For Dogs - I take them on walks, give them their toys, play fetch with them and provide any routine grooming, such as brushing. I also pet or give any affection that they like (such as sitting on the couch with me, etc.) For Cats - I play with them, using their toys, I provide any routine grooming, such as brushing, and - if applicable - I show them animal videos. Additionally, I invite them to sit next to me, on my lap or on a pillow on my lap.
