Pet care experience

Just a Girl and Her Dog

I was born into a world filled with animals and have always had at least one by my side. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive hands-on experience caring for a wide range of animals—including small pets (bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, etc.), reptiles (bearded dragons, geckos, snakes, blue-tongue skinks), farm animals (chickens, goats, ducks, horses), and of course, dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and temperaments. While I love all animals, dogs hold a particularly special place in my heart. From raising my own to caring for senior dogs and reactive pups, I bring patience, intuition, and years of hands-on experience to every animal I work with. I’ve worked professionally as a dog handler in lodging/daycare environments and independently as a professional pet sitter and walker for over 5 years. I’m proud to share that I recently graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences and Behavior. I’ve completed coursework focused on animal behavior, handling, safety, and medication administration, and I’m also certified in canine first aid and CPR. My long-term goal is to continue advancing professionally in the dog training and animal behavior field.

Nadiya house sat and looked after our cat for a few days. She did a great job communicating with us. The house was clean when we returned and our cat had been well looked after!

She is one of the two best house sitter/pet sitters I have ever had and I have had many. I will use her again in the future and I would like you to give her a $50 tip.

Very nice and professional. Sent updates on the dogs throughout the day to ensure we knew they were taken care of on my wedding day.

Nadiya was an amazing Rover hire. She watched our tuxedo cat Simon or five day. Checked on him 2 times daily. Fed and socialized with him. Received great pics daily. Highly recommend her.

Nadiya was great with our pups and they were happy and tired after their walks. Recommend! And will definitely have her come back to help us again.

Schedule

Pet care continues to be a major part of my daily life, as I care for my own three animals, offer services to others, and have a job that requires constant animal care. Currently, I work full-time as a dog handler at a large animal sanctuary, where I care for and work with a large population of dogs with diverse behavioral backgrounds. My role involves monitoring structured playgroups, facilitating group walks (long hikes with a majority of the sanctuary dogs), and closely observing canine body language and social dynamics to maintain a safe and balanced environment. I also conduct individualized enrichment and training sessions tailored to each dog’s behavioral and emotional needs. Beyond handling, I take an active role in many aspects of the dogs’ daily care. This includes supporting medication staff when needed, maintaining a clean and safe environment, ensuring all dogs are accounted for, and spending time building trust with more complex behavioral cases. I work regularly with dogs that require extra patience and adaptive communication. For example, learning hand signals to communicate with a deaf dog. A large portion of my work also takes place in the feed room, where meals are prepared for over 100 dogs each day. This requires careful attention to detail, as many dogs have specific diets, feeding amounts, supplements, or medical considerations. Through this work, I’ve developed a deep familiarity with each dog’s personality, behavior patterns, and individual needs. My schedule at the sanctuary is Sunday–Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM, which means my availability for pet sitting during those days is limited to pets who can comfortably be left alone for longer stretches of time. If your pet requires midday care during those hours, I kindly ask that arrangements be made with another caregiver for a check-in. Outside of those hours, I remain committed to providing thoughtful, attentive care and will always work closely with pet parents to make sure their pet’s routine is supported.

To ensure the best possible care, I ask that pet parents share any behavioral quirks, medical needs, or special routines ahead of time. Whether it’s a preferred walking route, training cues your dog responds to, or specific things that help them feel secure, my goal is to respect the relationship you’ve built with your pet and support them in the way they’re most comfortable.
