Mya did a wonderful job taking care of our fur babies in our home while we were on vacation! I received daily pictures and updates while we were gone and she took great care of the house. We will definitely hire her again!

I just reviewed the first 180 listing of people offering house-sitting services for my zip code and I didn't see Mya's name. I wanted to see her previous reviews to see what I missed in my search for her services. We were very upfront with Mya in our preliminary communications via the Rover chat service. Stated we are retired couple with two senior dogs (9 and 13) who are used to us being around most of the time. We were looking for someone who was a student who came and went to classes periodically during the day or someone who worked from home. Stated our dogs were very friendly, warmed up quickly to anyone showing them some affection or attention. Stated also in our preliminary texts the dogs sleep with us and asked if them sharing her bed was a problem. She said it was OK. She came for a personal meeting in our home a few days after our preliminary texts (and about 30 days before our trip) and everything seemed fine. We informed her Ginger was on pain meds and prescription kibble and canned food due to crystals in her urine. Explained that the prescription diet made her drink more to flush out the crystals from her bladder. Consequently, she has to go outside more often than a normal day due to increased water intake. We showed her a 3 page list of instructions concerning their feeding instructions, emergency numbers, vet phone number, treat instructions, etc. She said she didn't have any questions regarding their care. We were pleased with her visit and thought she was a good match for the job. Then she stated she has a 14 or 16 month child and wondered if it was ok to bring him. Our dogs haven't been around small children but thought the child would be safe with them but was somewhat taken aback that she hadn't mentioned the child in our written communication. We said it was OK. Before she left we informed Mya we would book her services with Rover and agreed she'd come back just a few days before she started to get more detailed information and give her a garage door opener so she could park her car in our garage. A couple days before we left on our trip she came back and everything went well. She brought her son with her for this visit and the child and our dogs seemed to be OK with each other. I asked her where her son would sleep and she said with me. We gave her the garage door opener and asked her to text us upon her arrival on April 9 around 8-9 AM so we'd know she was onsite. After she returned home she texted asking if it was OK for her sister to stay with her as she stated her sister also worked with Rover and they usually stayed together. After thinking about it overnight we replied we weren't comfortable with her sister staying. Advised it was OK to visit but not to stay the whole time. Our thinking was (1) we didn't want any further distractions from caring for the dogs (she already had a child to care for; and (2) we had made it clear the dogs slept with us and two adults and a small child in a queen bed would make it too crowded for two dogs also. She responded rather curtly, something like, OK, Whatever. Mya showed up on time and texted that she was at our house. However, things began to go downhill from that point on. These are the reasons I would never use Mya again: (1) We made it plain upfront the dogs slept on our bed and that we have a water bowl in our bathroom for them to drink from during the night and that we closed the bedroom door so they couldn't roam during the night. We put the bowl in the bathroom adjoining her bedroom before we left. We have six surveillance cameras outside and two inside. The video shows them roaming during the night sleeping in our den off and on. I don't know if she locked them out because we don't have a camera showing the bedroom doors. (2) She didn't show much or any affection for attention to them. I looked at video of 7 of the 10 days she stayed. I only saw a couple of times she even touched them. Never saw her play with them. (3) She called me after she'd been in the house a couple of days saying Ginger wouldn't eat. That was totally unlike Ginger as she'll eat anything. Looking at the video she didn't feed them on a schedule, on several occasions she didn't mix in the canned meat and supplements for the evening meal. None of our previous sitters have had any problem with the dogs eating and I attribute it to a lack of attention on her part. One day she didn't feed Sugar at all. I did see Mya filling the water bowl in the pantry area. (4) On the morning of April 12 she let them out after being inside for 12 hrs, 28 min. On April 12 it was 13 hrs, 1 min. Apr 15 it was 11 hrs, 46 minutes. The instructions said to let them out after eating which she didn't regularly do. She knew Ginger had bladder issues and failed to put them out more often. (5) She didn't pick up poop anytime during her 10 day stay. When I got home I picked up what I could. Some poop was so old it started to crumble making it hard to pick up. (6) She didn't turn lights off. Video shows she would leave for hours and not turn lights off while she was gone. Likewise, overnight, she'd leave lights on in the kitchen or pantry. (i7) When the dogs were outside she didn't put the water bowl out. Ginger is an inside dog and won't stay out without our being outside with her. Sugar will stay out longer. On Apr 15 they were out for approximately 4.5 hrs with no water. In summary Mya spent a lot of time away from the house (she didn't really move in with clothes or food) and when she was in the house, she neglected Ginger and Sugar. When she'd return from being away from the house, the dogs would greet here at the door but she didn't pet them or show them any attention. She didn't adhere to a set feeding schedule like they were used to,or let them out for more frequent bathroom breaks. On more than one occasion Ginger was reluctant to come in from being outside because I believe it was an inhospitable environment. On more than one occasion the child picked up Ginger's food bowl and carried it into the family room. Mya would put it back and the child would pick it up again. Again, the lack of forming a bond with the dogs, the lack of a set feeding schedule, and having a young child disrupted their entire routines. I saw what was happening by looking at the video on my phone while we were gone but didn't address it with Mya because I didn't want her to take it out on the dogs and make their situation worse. If we would have had any other alternative we would have dismissed Mya after a couple of days. We suffered a lot of angst knowing Ginger and Sugar were not cared for properly but couldn't change the situation until we got home. I just don't want any other family's pets to endure the same situation ours went through. We never would have engaged her if we'd known how little time she'd spend in house and lack of attention to our dogs.
