Pet care experience

{Vet Assistant & Pet Caregiver}

Hello, it’s Moriah! I am a biology student working towards the chance to get into veterinary school. With nearly five years of experience in veterinary medicine. Currently, I work as a veterinary assistant in the small animal emergency and ICU departments at NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. At the CVM, my job consists of caring for animals with a wide range of medical needs such as respiratory distress, diabetes, seizures, and other debilitating diseases. With that being said, I am experienced is administuring/providing… -oral medication -subcutaneous and intramuscular injections -and providing senior care, as my senior “baby” is 15 years old :) Beyond my experience in veterinary medicine, I have spent my life caring for animals of all kinds. I have owned everything from high-energy German Shepherds to high-maintenance poodles, and let's not forget about my highly loved cats. Additionally, I have firsthand experience training and working with a reactive dog. I understand the patience, compassion, and consistency that many pets need. As a pet owner myself, I understand the importance of trust it takes for someone to allow you to watch their pet. Therefore, my goal is to give you peace of mind by treating your pets with the same love and patience I give my own.

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

Your pet's safety and comfort are my top priority. Every pet is different; therefore, I tailor each visit to meet their individual needs while following any instructions you may provide. {Dog walks = 30 mins} A standard dog walk is 30 minutes. During the dog walk, my goals are to provide great exercise and mental stimulation for each walk. This includes stopping and working for treats with basic tricks, whatever your pet already knows. Due to my work experience, your pet's safety must come first. Therefore, if temperatures are too hot, pavement is unsafe for their paws, or I notice any signs of overheating or respiratory distress, I may cut the walk short and may spend the remainder of the time indoors or under the shade providing enrichment. Lastly, I understand that you will provide their designated collar or harness for the walk, but I always will include my slip lead in every walk to prevent your dog from slipping out of their harness or collar. *If you would prefer me not to use my personal slip lead in addition to your harness or collar, please let me know* *Will only give the pet treats that you provided to avoid any possible reactions to treats that they have not tried* {Drop-In Visits} *If you are out of town or gone for more than 24 hours from my initial drop-in visit, I require two drop-in visits a day to ensure your animal is safe* Each drop-in visit is 30 minutes and is customized to your pet's needs. Depending on your pet's needs, I offer -Potty breaks/play time in a fenced-in backyard or leashed walk -Enrichment/ mental stimulation -Feeding and fresh water - Oral medications or other approved medications - Litterbox cleaning (every drop in) - A LOT of cuddles, if your pet approves :) *If you would prefer longer visits or additional care for another pet, extended visit options are available for additional fees* {Additional Info} As stated above, I will always send pictures or videos, and each visit or walk will consist of a video/picture of initial arrival, a video/picture during, and a video/picture when leaving. I will also message you a short summary of how the visit went, so you can decide if you think I am the right match for you. RECOMMENDED: If you feel like you or your pet would like to meet me first, I highly recommend scheduling a meet and greet prior to the service! This will give us the opportunity to discuss your pet's routine, medical needs, and behavioral concerns while also allowing your pet to become acquainted with me.

Schedule

As a full-time student with a part-time job, some may say I like to keep my schedule booked. However, this is not 100% true. One of the perks of working as a Veterinary Assistant is that I can make my own schedule. This allows me to plan my availability around the pets in my care whenever possible. If you book with me about a month in advance, I can often arrange my work schedule to dedicate more time to your pet throughout your booking. For shorter-notice requests, I'm still happy to accommodate pet sitting or dog walks before classes, between classes or work shifts, in the evenings, or on weekends whenever my schedule allows. This would usually mean early morning drop-ins/early morning walks before 8:00 am, or midday walks around 11:00 am- 2:30 pm, and even evening strolls after 5:00 pm. Regardless of when you book, your pet’s care will be my priority. I'll ensure that they receive the care that they deserve. Additionally, I will always be communicating with you for the purpose of updates and questions that may arise.
