I scheduled a meet-and-greet several weeks before my dog’s stay, and everything went very well. Based on our conversation, I felt comfortable moving forward and believed she had the experience and confidence necessary to care for my dog. Unfortunately, after the first day of a three-day stay, I was contacted and told that my dog was not adjusting well and had scratched her husband’s foot. Because I was unable to come get my dog at that time, we agreed that she would be crated as needed. I completely understand that dogs can experience anxiety or have difficulty adjusting in a new environment, and I appreciated being informed of the situation. However, I was disappointed with how the situation was handled overall. Based on the experience I had during the meet-and-greet, I expected someone who was comfortable and experienced with dogs and able to calmly manage an adjustment period. Instead, I felt that the situation became unnecessarily difficult and that the sitter did not demonstrate the level of confidence and experience I had expected. Unfortunately, the interaction at pickup was also very uncomfortable. I felt that the sitter was rude and unprofessional toward me. I believe honest communication is important, and I understand that not every dog is the right fit for every sitter.
