Family hosting in York

Michael grew up with dogs (spaniels, retrievers and even a labrador that was in training to be an assistance dog) whilst his partner, Joanne, grew up with cats. We've had several dogs stay with us over the last 10 years whilst our 2 sons, 11 & 9, have grown up which has given us the flexibility to have them to stay when its suited us. We do have a cat but she lives upstairs when we have dogs to stay so doesn't come in contact with them.

Theo had a wonderful time with Michael and his family. I was sent regular photos and updates and on the last day, Theo was driven home to me. I couldn’t have asked for more

Absolutely brilliant and will use again. My dog was just treated like one of the family which is all you can ask for. She had the best holiday, which meant we had a the best time knowing she was being looked after and having a great time. The whole process was easy and relaxed, I couldn’t recommend more.

Michael and his family took great care of Rosie. We had photos and updates so knew she was happy. We'll gladly leave her again knowing she'll be content.

We really appreciate Michael helping us out after an emergency meant we needed somebody urgently. He was brilliant with our nervous lab, knew when to encourage him and when to give him some space and we couldn't be more grateful.

Michael and his family were amazing with our dog Molly .Molly is older and quite nervous but she settled really well and we got photos and updates whilst away . We would highly recommend.

Schedule

There is a 3 mile loop round some fields near our house which allows the dgos to be off the lead (providing they come back!), and also a longer walk down by the river for the dogs that like a swim. We do like to take the dogs with us when we are out and about (see photos) so it's good if they can slot in with our plans.

A typical day

Usually the dog(s) get walked first thing in a morning for around 40 mins, with a longer walk down the near the river in the evenings - they can be let off the lead in the fields if they have good recall and go for a swim in the river if they are keen!

We insist on a meet & greet prior to pets staying. We've only had one bad experience when sitting and it was a last minute booking for an extremely anxious dog who failed to settle when its owners left - but it wasn't good for the dog or us. The other 15+ dogs we've had to stay over the years have been brilliant though!
