Pet care experience
A tired dog is a happy dog!
I’ve been taking care of dogs since I was 10 when I started house sitting for my neighbors and word spread quickly! A few years later my family adopted a Border Collie and a Pitbull mix. Our Border Collie had high energy levels until she was about 7 years old and recently passed away at 14 and our pit (11) developed some pretty serious reactivity to other dogs and people. My partner Kenya and I currently have a one year old Australian Shepherd. I have lots of experience with high energy dogs, and believe that a tired dog is a happy dog. However, that doesn’t just involve physical exercise but also mental exercise. I’ve been training our Aussie pup since we got him so I’m very patient with teaching dogs new behaviors. We’ve worked on tricks as well as the basics and some more advanced obedience work, to include a solid off leash recall. We are happy to help with providing consistency during the various phases of training! I also have experience with dog-reactive pups from my childhood dog and a few clients on Rover. I am patient with them working through their big feelings toward other dogs and people.

Safety, trust & environment
We do live in an apartment but we have a dog park 5 minutes away and are very close to Balboa Park. We go somewhere with our pup everyday so your dog will get as much exercise as it needs! We’re able to accommodate any requests, if your dog needs to be crated, needs to eat separate, requires regular brushing, etc. We promise to treat your dog like our own and make them feel at home!

I am SO happy that I found Mia to care for my dogs. I worry a lot about my two dogs when I go on trips and not being able to find a good walker/caretaker who was willing to take them was stressful in the past. My bigger dog can be reactive with the other one due to her territorial nature plus she is quite strong during walks so I needed someone strong who also really understood dog behavior and the specific rules that are tailored to my dogs. Mia perfectly understood the unique nature of my dogs and provided me with frequent updates and pictures so I was able to relax and enjoy my trip without worry! My dogs loved her too and had complete trust in her. I'll definitely ask Mia and Kenya to care for my dogs again for future trips.

Schedule
I currently work Monday-Thursday from about 6am-2pm and the occasional Friday. I don’t have much flexibility Monday-Thursday currently. I’m off every weekend and spend them with our dog, hiking, going to the beach, and walking the trails in Balboa Park.
