Going to school for Animal Behavior
HI! Thanks for considering me! Currently, I am in school to get my degree in animal behavior! I have more professional animal experience from West-Mec's Vet Science program! With that I also have loads of personal experience taking care of pets ranging from your common dog and cat to more exotics like hedgehogs, bunnies, & guinea pigs. When friends and family reach out I am always happy to help them care for their pets whether its basic advice or pet-sitting them. I have 6 dogs, 4 little ones all under 10 lbs, and two huskies! We also had two very cute bunnies, who unfortunately passed recently, a hedgehog, and now two new aquatic African frogs which came into my care from a friend.

We highly recommend Mia! Prior to leaving Mia met with us twice and responded to texts and emails immediately. We were very anxious about leaving our 12 year old dog for a week but, Mia took excellent care of him keeping us informed with texts and photos. Mia also left our home in perfect order which is welcoming after tiring plane flights. We definitely appreciated the friendly professionalism from Mia.
I was very worried about leaving my very anxious senior dog for a week. I came back to him being perfectly calm and happy. If he could talk, I am sure he would tell me he had a great time under Mia’s care!
We were nervous having somebody new watch out house and stay with the dogs. However, Mia turned out to be dependable and reliable. She showed up to meet the dogs when she said she would. She followed all of our instructions. The house was left in perfect condition. We have three dogs with a lot of energy and she managed them well! I would definitely use her again! Thank you Mia!

Schedule
Full transparency, my schedule has changed recently as I now work full-time in a retail store. If you book with me please keep in mind I have a fluctuating schedule with shifts where I am gone about 9 hrs. Sometimes these shifts are early morning or late night and can interfere with breakfast and dinner times.

Safety, trust & environment
If I am pet-sitting in my own home I try to understand that the animal could be overwhelmed. I try to minimize interaction to let them settle down, typically secluded to a certain room before being introduced to the rest of my home. I also try to read the body language of the animal to determine where they are at. I try to follow the animal's lead, if they want to go out and play with me then that's what I will do, if not that is ok I will give them space. Simply put, if I am pet-sitting in the animal's own home then I try to give them a sense of normalcy, just give me their routine and I will follow it. It's a lot more simple to watch an animal in their own environment, they are more likely to open up to me and be less stressed out.
Pets
A typical day
I love love love the flirt pole, its this giant stick with a rope and a squeaky toy at the end of it. Energetic dogs go crazy with it and I have fun with it too! I also love to give their brain a little exercise and make them use their sense of smell for at least 30 minutes too, its a lot more enriching than an hour walk! Plus its loads of fun. But of course I love to take dogs outside, this is probably their favorite part of the day. I enjoy taking my little dogs to this tiny park down the street from my home while walking them, no only do they love the grass but I have them follow me up and down the steps a few times to break up the basic routine of walking around the neighborhood.

- Of course I need to know any special needs including but not limited to, allergies, any disabilities, even asthma, and how much exercise they can handle is also good to know, I don't want to over work a dog. I would also like to know preferences, like foods and toys but also their style of walking. Do they sniff and mark at every tree? Or do they enjoy to run? And so on. For cats, knowing their personality before hand would be a good heads up, as well as knowing their preferences too. I know cats can be picky, and I don't blame them, the more info about a cat or dog before hand the better I can perform without any unexpected obstacles.
