Pet care fits seamlessly into our daily routine. Melissa works right down the road, and Jim works from home, which allows us to be present and attentive throughout the day. Our schedules make it easy to provide consistent care, regular potty breaks, playtime, and plenty of love and supervision. Caring for dogs is a natural part of our home life, and we truly enjoy making sure every pup feels safe, comfortable, and part of the family while they’re with us.

Information Melissa & Jim K. would like to know about your pet
Before your stay, we ask that you provide any relevant veterinary and emergency contact information, along with details about current medications and clear instructions for administering them. Please also let us know about any special needs or sensitivities your dog may have, such as anxiety, fear of loud noises or fireworks, or anything else that helps us keep them comfortable and safe. It’s also important for us to know whether your dog is good with cats, as we have a resident cat in our home.
A typical day
Our days usually start around 6 a.m. with morning snuggles, happy greetings, and fresh air to kick things off. After potty breaks, pups enjoy relaxed playtime or porch time while the house wakes up. Breakfast and any morning medications are given around 8 a.m., followed by a mix of supervised backyard time, indoor play, toys, and plenty of attention throughout the day. Afternoons are a balance of activity and rest. Some dogs love exploring the yard, others prefer lounging nearby or following us around the house. Dinner is served around 5 p.m., and evenings are all about winding down with cuddles, calm play, and family time. Nighttime snacks and any evening medications are given around 8 p.m. We keep a steady routine but make sure each day is filled with fun, comfort, and lots of love. Small breeds especially thrive on this kind of structure with a little extra spoiling mixed in.

Pet care experience
Dogs are our life, and our pack welcomes new dogs all the time! Jim and I have loved animals our entire lives, but apartment living kept us from having dogs for many years. In 2010, we finally moved into a house and welcomed our first pup, Dawson. Over the years, our pack has grown and evolved through adoption, and today we continue to share our home with dogs who are deeply loved and well cared for. In early 2012, we began fostering small-breed dogs for our local Humane Society. Over time, we helped nearly 100 dogs find their forever homes. Through fostering, we’ve gained hands-on experience with a wide range of needs, including skin and eye conditions, epilepsy, administering medications (pill, liquid, and inhaler), behavioral challenges, incontinence, tripod dogs, and post-surgical recovery. If a dog needs patience, structure, or special care, chances are we’ve handled it. Many adoptive families still trust us to care for their dogs when they travel. We joined DogVacay (now Rover) in December 2015 and absolutely love being sitters. Every dog has their own personality, just like little humans, and we take the time to learn what makes each one feel safe and happy. While we now have three grandchildren (as of 2025), we still like to think of the dogs who stay with us as our “grand-pups.” We get to spoil them, keep them comfortable, and send them home happy, already looking forward to their next visit. We would be honored to open our home to your babies and promise to care for them with the same love, patience, and attention we give our own. – Melissa & Jim
Reviews

First visit with my new 12 year old rescue, along with my other dog who has been multiple times. They both came out happy wagging tails!

I’m a repeat customer, and Melissa & Jim have been consistently wonderful with Dou Dou. This time was especially great—she was happy, relaxed, and even ate more than usual, which is a big sign she felt comfortable and well cared for. They’re reliable, attentive, and clearly experienced. I always feel at ease leaving Dou Dou with them. Highly recommend, and I’ll definitely continue booking.

Another great stay with Jim & Melissa! Thanks for taking great care of our pup! Till next time!!!

Right from the meet and greet, I knew Stewy was going to be in great hands with Melissa and Jim. Stewy had a great week and I was so appreciative of all the pictures that were sent over the course of the week. Will definitely use again!
