My experience comes from owning my own pets (goats,chickens,ducks,dogs,cats,bunnies,guinea pigs,hamsters) and petsitting (yes, even even horses, pigs, snakes and bugs). In previous years, I fostered for countless animal rescue groups and shelters, whether it was just volunteering or fostering puppies or senior dogs in need. I currently own a pitbull/lab rescue, Cali, who I trust with few people. I completely understand the anxiety when it comes to trusting someone new to watch over your pup. This is why I prioritize communication, forming relationships with both pets and parents, sending frequent updates and paying close attention to details/routines provided to me. After each visit, you can always expect to find water bowls to be clean and full, leashes hung up and everything just as you left it except this time with a happy and tired pup!
