Happy Tails at 23 acre woods
My love for animals started when I was a little girl on a small family farm caring for goats, chickens, horses, and of course—dogs. I participated in 4H and horse competitions, which taught me patience, confidence, and responsibility around all kinds of animals. I’m comfortable with dogs of all breeds, sizes, ages, and personalities—from tiny lap dogs to giant mountain adventurers, puppies to seniors. During COVID my daughter began boarding dogs, and we naturally grew into the dog care business together. It’s become a true family passion and we absolutely love what we do.

Melanie took great care of my dogs and dropped them off before we arrived! She was lovely to communicate with and my dogs seemed happy and healthy when we got him. Her place on the hill with the fenced in area looked lovely for the dogs. Will definitely use Melanie again!
Melanie took fantastic care of my pup Steve! You can tell that she truly loves dogs and cares deeply about them. She sent pictures and video of him playing happily in her large property, it was so nice to know he was having a great time. Sometimes when I’ve picked Steve up after boarding from other sitters I could tell that he was happy to leave, but in this case it was clear that he really likes Melanie and had a blast. He came back so happy and SO TIRED! He slept like a stone for the rest of the day! Melanie has great communication and was very flexible with pickup and drop off. I highly recommend Melanie and we will definitely be seeing her again!
Melanie was so wonderful to our dog, Indy. She treated her just like she was apart of her family. Even on last minute notice - she kept Indy for a few extra days! We will be boarding with Melanie for all future needs.

Schedule
I’m available full-time, including weekends and holidays. Your dog will get plenty of attention, outdoor time, potty breaks, walks, play, and cuddles throughout the day.

Safety, trust & environment
When dogs stay with us, they’re treated like family. We live 15 minutes from downtown Truckee on 22 private acres of forested land with a meadow and trails to explore. We also have a secure fenced area for safe outdoor play and structured time. Inside, there are cozy napping spots and fresh water available throughout the home and property. Between the open space, toy baskets, sticks, and balls—dogs leave happy, tired, and content.

Happy Tails at 23 Acre Woods is a mountain dog’s dream! A stay with us often includes: • Sniffing and exploring forest trails • Playtime in the meadow or fenced yard • Seasonal lake or creek trips (weather permitting) • Cozy rest time inside with blankets and beds • Extra cuddles, brushing, and downtime as needed Each season brings something fun—lake days in summer, snowy zoomies in winter, and creek adventures in spring. Whether your dog is energetic or laid-back, we make sure they’re happy and fulfilled.
