Melanie can care for
Availability
My routine is pretty flexible as a remote worker. I'm able to stay at your home overnight and provide plenty of attention and care to your pets. My schedule allows me to step out between meetings to walk your dog, play fetch, or use that time to clean litter boxes.

Safety, trust & environment
I'm able to care for pets in my clients' homes full-time. As a pet owner myself, I get nervous when traveling or leaving my cats home alone for too long. It's important for our animals to have human interaction, so it's my top priority to show your pets as much love and affection as they would normally get with you being home.
Information Melanie K. would like to know about your pet
I prefer oversharing when it comes to your pets, tell me everything about them! Knowing things like: you cross the street when you see other dogs on a walk, your cat only likes to be pet on his back and never on his head, your dog will only eat if you stay in the same room with him, etc., is incredibly helpful, no matter how weird it might sound. These specifics are so important in helping your animals feel comfortable and this helps me to ensure that I'm giving them proper care and attention. With walking especially, knowing how your dog interacts with other people and animals is critical to a safe and enjoyable experience for all parties.
A typical day
I love playing with animals and helping them get moving. Our tuxedo cat gets shy and when our other cats want playtime, so I've worked with him to find the right way to keep him stimulated and entertained. As for dogs, I love walking and running outdoors, and I'm always down for a game of fetch. My current job is pretty flexible so I often get daytime cuddles in with my cats and they make guest appearances on camera in meetings regularly. When pet sitting, I'll use those breaks in the day to cuddle with your pets, take them outside, play with them, and give treats.

Pet care experience
*Please note for new clients, I only book about 4-6 weeks out.* I adore animals! My partner and I have 3 sweet cats: Ted, Barney, and Geppetto. In addition to pet sitting for family and friends, I volunteered at Animal Nation in Connecticut for 2 years working with adoptable cats and kittens. My boy Ted was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, so we are navigating that experience together through daily oral medication and constant monitoring. When I moved to Charleston, I volunteered at the Charleston Animal Society with their kittens and mama cats at the main facility in North Charleston. I also worked part-time as a dog walker and cat sitter with Dogstar Pet Care before shifting my focus to Rover. Many of my clients with Dogstar were senior dogs, I take a patient and gentle approach in bringing dogs in and out for potty breaks based on their schedules and needs. With cats, I love to know all of their quirks and traits, and get them playing or snuggly once comfortable. My current day job is a remote position where I can work anywhere with an internet connection. This gives me the ultimate flexibility for drop in visits, overnight care, and daily walks. I'm willing to put in the extra effort to help your cats and dogs feel safe and loved while you're away, and will put your mind at ease by sharing plenty of pictures each day. My approach as a Rover sitter is to treat clients and their animals how I would hope someone would treat me and mine as a Rover customer.

Melanie is absolutely incredible! Responsive, professional, and so great with Wrigley. Her photo updates are also welcome, especially when we are on longer trips.

Melanie was excellent with my big happy dog! She is very reliable and communicative and I highly recommend her services!

Melanie sent us updates and photos throughout the day. She took very good care of our puppy. She played with him in the yard and took him for walks. She also took great care of our home. We are very pleased with her service and will be using Melanie in the future.
