Availability

My schedule is fairly flexible and I’m often able to adjust my hours around your pet’s needs, especially for extended stays or regular drop-ins/walks. Pet care isn’t just something I fit into my day—it’s a huge part of what makes me feel grounded, happy, and fulfilled. I haven’t fostered since moving to Asheville, and working with dogs again is a way I’m reconnecting with that part of myself.

Safety, trust & environment

I share custody of three senior dogs—now 14, 13, and 12—and they’ve been with me most of their lives. My 13-year-old tripod, a boxer-hound mix, lives with me full-time and is my best friend. Because of him, I’m especially tuned into the needs of older or special-needs pets. At home, I live in an apartment with three private dog parks on the property. They’re usually empty, which gives us a safe place to play, run, or just sniff around. For boarding, your dog will need to meet mine first to ensure everyone vibes well together. In your home, I always do a meet & greet beforehand to get to know your pet and their environment, plus give you a chance to get to know me. Through my years of volunteering at a busy municipal shelter, I’ve developed a strong ability to read dog body language—whether that means giving space to a nervous dog, redirecting rough play, or stepping in safely if a situation escalates. I also know how to interrupt and break up dog fights safely, though I do everything possible to prevent them from happening in the first place! Your pet’s comfort and safety, and mine, are my top priorities- wherever we are.

Information Megan S. would like to know about your pet

I want to make sure your pet feels as safe and supported as possible, so the more I know ahead of time, the better. I always ask about: * Special needs or medical conditions * Behavior quirks (reactivity, anxiety, resource guarding, etc.) * Daily routines and energy levels * Meal schedules—are they grazers or on a feeding schedule? * Crate training and potty habits * Any mischief tendencies (e.g. counter surfing or trash raiding) * Personality, their favorite things, and what you love about them🩵 I’ve worked with dogs of all personalities and needs—nothing surprises me, and everything helps me care for them like you would.

A typical day

Whether your dog loves adventure or couch cuddles, I’ve got them covered! For high-energy pups, I offer walks AND even runs or hikes—I’m a marathoner (6 halfs, 8 10Ks, and one full I will never do again!) and I love hitting Asheville’s trails with a four-legged (or less) companion. For the snuggle bugs, I’m equally happy curling up on the couch for a true crime binge and some solid belly rubs and ear scratches. I’m also a hobby photographer, so you’ll get tons of great photos during your pet’s stay. I’ve been known to take 50 shots just to get that perfect portrait to send to their humans.

Pet care experience

For eight years, I volunteered with the Wake County Animal Center in Raleigh, NC, where I fostered 60 dogs—from newborn puppies to senior dogs and every age and personality in between. While I’m not a certified dog trainer, I’ve worked with pups who had anxiety, reactivity, resource guarding, medical needs, and even deafness (I taught one dog 15 different signs!). I’ve handled recovery care after surgery, heartworm treatment, skin and eye issues, potty training, and medication routines that required attention multiple times a day. I feel confident and comfortable with any dog—big or small, shy or hyper, special needs or seniors. I haven’t had to give injectable medication before, but I’m completely comfortable learning and have no hesitation.

We just LOVE Megan! You will not find someone more attentive to your pet’s needs! Her communication while we are away gives us total peace of mind so we can completely enjoy our vacation. She loves on our pets with her whole heart and she leaves our home immaculate - washed linens and vacuumed the day she left (beyond what we would expect). Thanks so much for another great experience, Megan!!
