Pet care experience

Experienced dog & cat sitter on RI!

I grew up with family dogs- mostly Yellow Labs and Golden Retrievers- and started dog sitting for extra cash as a teenager. After moving into my own apartment, I adopted my very own dog in October 2020- a 7/8ish year old male Pug mix named Murphy. Murphy is always fully vaccinated and always up to date on his heart worm and flea/tick preventatives, so no need to worry about that. Murphy is friendly with dogs of all shapes, sizes, and personalities- but he doesn't particularly enjoy sharing his space with adult male dogs that have not been neutered. If your adult male dog has not been 'fixed', I can send Murphy to my parent's house for a vacation for the duration of your dog's boarding- but I will need at least a few days notice for the booking to get him out there. In terms of dog sitting/boarding experience, I've taken care of dozens of dogs belonging to neighbors, coworkers, family members, friends, and Rover pet parents while they were out of town. I've taken care of puppies as young as 5 months as well as seniors during their final years, and every age in between. I have experience taking care of perfectly healthy and average dogs, and a few retired Guide Dogs that needed special diets, medication, and supplements at very specific times/intervals. I've taken care of dogs with serious resource aggression, as well as dogs that are leash reactive. As far as cat sitting goes, I have years of experience taking care of cats in their own homes (whether it be house sitting or drop in visits). I’ve taken care of cats of all ages, sizes, and personalities, including very social cats, cats who prefer to hide away, and cats with special medical needs.

Safety, trust & environment

I live in a large and recently renovated studio apartment on Roosevelt Island with my own dog, a 7/8ish year old male Pug mix named Murphy. I live in a dog friendly elevator building, and there's plenty of outdoor space and grassy areas for walks on our beautiful island. Murphy is very friendly and loves other dogs, and does not have any food or resource guarding issues (but it's okay if your dog does- I have watched dogs with those issues and know how to handle it). I have a small-ish crate in my apartment that Murphy doesn't actually use in case your dog enjoys crating in his/her own "cave", and dogs are allowed on my couch and bed unless you prefer to keep them off to match your house rules. Apartment is dog-proofed already for Murphy, a big fresh bowl of water is kept out all day, and there are plenty of dog toys!

A typical day

Roosevelt Island is a beautiful little escape from the city within the city with lots of walking paths away from traffic, crowds, and loud noises. I always take long walks a few times a day on different routes around the island and will visit the dog runs for off-leash games of fetch as long as the dog runs are empty and the owner is okay with that (I do not and will not visit dog runs/parks if other dogs are in there for safety reasons- but they are often unoccupied). Lots of toys in my apartment and plenty of cuddles too!

Unspayed females accepted, neutered males only
Meaghan can host up to 2 pets per night
Please let me know if your dog is an adult male that has *not* been neutered- my adult male dog doesn't do as well with unfixed adult males, so I can send him to my parent's house for a vacation with his grandparents while your dog stays with me, but I just need a few days notice to organize his trip to Long Island. Murphy is fine with puppy and adult male dogs that have been neutered, and with all female dogs regardless of whether they have been spayed or not.
