I am very kind, cautious, and considerate when I am in clients homes. I go where I am needed, and only in those areas. I take privacy very seriously and take every precaution to respect yours. When necessary, I take my time with animals who need my patience. I am small, soft-spoken, and a soothing energy for your precious pooch. When needed, I am a steady, stern, and strong force. I am capable of giving your pet the ability to trust and bond with me, so you can rest easy knowing your family member is taken care of.
Information Maya Elizabeth H. would like to know about your pet
I really want to know every little detail the owner is willing to share. But important things I would like to know include: How they do when left alone? Do they have separation anxiety? Will they destroy furniture or blankets? Are they fearful in new situations? What works best for them? What kind of basic commands do you use with your dog (as every owner is different)? What is their hopes for their dogs stay with me? What should I make sure to do? And what to avoid? I do not have a breed preference--I love ALL dogs. But I am very equipped to handle all big northern breeds, such as Huskies and Malamutes.
A typical day
I individualize my routine for every pet, as no two pets are exactly alike. Some pets need more mellow days hanging out by the tv or resting in the backyard, and other pets might like a lot of play and stimulation. I will communicate with you to figure out what the best path is for your furry friend.

Pet care experience
Last update: 5/28/2026 12:53PM [NOTE: After years and years of not changing my prices, I have made a small price increase as of May 2026. With the increase of food, gas, and rent, I could no longer afford to keep my prices where they were. Thank you for understanding.] Hello! My name is Maya (they/them), and I’m a 33-year-old professional with over a decade of professional, hands-on experience in animal care. I have professionally been a dog walker & pet sitter since January 2019. If you're looking for someone experienced, reliable, and genuinely passionate about animals, you've come to the right place. I’ve dedicated both my personal and professional life to caring for animals of all kinds—from farm animals to reptiles, companion animals, and more. There’s truly no animal too big or too small for me to care for with compassion and confidence. Over the years, I’ve developed a wide range of skills through working in pet retail, veterinary hospitals, dog daycares, and grooming salons. I grew up on farms in Northern Washington, and as a teenager, I trained sled dogs—an experience that deeply shaped my love and respect for animals. I’ve proudly called Portland home since 2018. After a brief hiatus from pet care (2023–2025), I’m thrilled to be back in full swing, offering personalized, thoughtful care for your furry (or scaly!) family members. As of August of 2025, I’ve taken on a position as a peer support specialist in a peer-run respite house and work monday-friday 7:00am - 3:00pm. I am available for pet sitting and dog walking around this schedule. I specialize in drop-ins and longer walks (1 hour), and I’m open to house-sitting for the right client. I ensure that while I’m caring for your pets, my own animals—two cats and a four-year-old husky—are well looked after by my trusted partner, with daily check-ins and walks by me. I bring over 20 years of personal and professional experience with animals, and I truly understand the emotional bond we share with them. I lost my beloved husky of 13 years in 2021 and my border collie of 15 years in 2020. I finally said goodbye to my heart cat of fourteen years in 2026, and I am still deeply grieving this loss. Though I miss them every day, I now channel that love into caring for your pets with the same dedication and affection. In December 2024, I achieved a personal milestone by purchasing my first car! This has greatly expanded my service area—I'm now available within a 5-mile radius of NE Portland, making it easier than ever to reach my clients quickly and reliably. Rain or shine, you can count on me to show up. **Got a last-minute need?** I have a Sagittarius moon, so I actually love spontaneous bookings! Don’t hesitate to reach out anytime—even on short notice. I also offer custom services like dog hikes or beach outings, as well as drop-off and pick-up services. While these aren’t listed in my standard pricing, I’m happy to discuss options with you directly. **Friendly reminder: I am non-binary and use they/them pronouns.** Thank you so much for reading—I can’t wait to meet you and your beloved pets! ANIMAL EXPERIENCE: ☆ COMPANION ANIMALS IN MY LIFE: Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Rats, Mice, Frogs, Birds ☆ FARM ANIMALS IVE COEXISTED WITH: Horses, Miniature Horses, Cows, Chickens, Peacocks ☆ ANIMALS I HAVE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH: Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Rabbits, Chinchillas, Guinea Pigs, Gerbils, Hamsters, Rats, Mice, Snakes, Chameleons, Geckos, Blue Tongue Skinks, Frogs, Tarantulas, Macaws, Cockatiels, African Parrots, Senegal Parrots, Parakeets, Finches, Horses, Miniature Horses, Cows, Bulls, Alpacas, Llamas, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Chickens, Roosters, Peacocks, Turkeys, Ducks, Geese, Wallabies, Hawks, and Wolfdogs.
Reviews

Maya was lovely and communicative. Will be hiring them again!

Always appreciate Maya’s ability to provide last minute cat sitting. I’ve had full trust in them in being able to care for both of my cats. One of them is diabetic and they are great at administering insulin, checking her bgl reading, etc. Definitely my go to person for cat care. :)

Thank you!

Maya took over for our usual sitter and did a great job with our 18 year old cat. They handled medications perfectly and the updates were frequent.
