Experienced animal caretaker

I am a recent biology PhD graduate with lots of animal experience: dog-walking, pet-sitting, cat fostering, volunteering in animal shelters, and working as a parrot trainer at a university lab. I've been a sitter on Rover for over a decade now. I also had my own dog, an energetic Dalmatian with Addison's disease and epilepsy, for 11.5 years before he sadly passed away recently. I am in a house in Arlington Heights with a large fenced-in yard that is great for dogs to play in (always fully supervised). I am currently in the process of applying for jobs, so I will be home with your dogs for the vast majority of the day. Your dog will receive daily play and exercise indoors and in my backyard, and walks in local parks. I am within short walking distance of the Arlington Reservoir, Arlington Great Meadows, and McLennan Park, which are my go-to dog walk destinations. Your cat will also receive daily play and grooming time if requested. Just let me know if you have any specific requests and I will do what I can to fulfill them. IMPORTANT! Please let me know when booking if your dog: - Takes any medications, or has any special dietary or medical concerns. If your dog takes daily medication, I am happy to provide this and am very comfortable administering meds to dogs (my own dog had Addison's disease and epilepsy for the last 6 years of his life and needed daily oral medication and monthly injections). - Has a history of dog or human aggression, is destructive, has a tendency to chew on or eat household objects, or has separation anxiety. I am happy to work to accommodate many of these concerns and they are not necessarily dealbreakers for me, but I need to know up front. - Is not fully housetrained or has accidents in the house I can board pets on short notice if I have room. I know that travel can be stressful and I always try to be as flexible as possible regarding pickups, dropoffs, and extensions. I always have my phone with me and can be reached at any time. I am here to make sure your pet is safe and happy so that you can have a stress-free travel experience. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or if you would like to board your pet with me!

Max was terrific! He was so patient during the process of dog introductions. I appreciated the photos that he sent while we were away and I would not hesitate to book with him again.

He was very good about communicating and sending updates/pictures. I would use him again. My dog was very happy playing with his dog and two other dogs he had for the weekend. Flexible drop off and pick up.

I highly recommend Max if you're looking for someone reliable to watch your pets. He is accommodating, flexible, responsive, nice and easy to work with! He's watched my dog several times in the last few months and I would definitely rebook any future stays with Max. He also watched my cats this past trip and I definitely would give him more than 5 stars if I could!

Safety, trust & environment

Dogs are fully supervised at all times when outdoors, and the vast majority of the time when indoors. Outside, your dog will be kept on-leash during walks (unless you specify otherwise), but will be allowed to play off-leash in my fenced in yard fully supervised at all times. I like to take dogs on long walks and give them lots of play time, but let me know what your dog's typical exercise needs and routine look like so I can best meet their needs. Indoors, I am careful to keep your dog's environment free of potential hazards.

A typical day

Your dog will receive at least 2 long walks per day, with additional backyard and indoor playtime throughout the day. However, it is always helpful if you let me know what your dog's activity level and typical schedule are, so I can tailor your pet's routine to that.
