We chose Matthew in part based on his reviews and repeat clients, so this experience was extremely disappointing. We wanted to share what happened so others can make their own informed decision. We booked and paid for house-sitting. On the first evening of our trip, after we had already flown out of state, the sitter contacted us to say he could no longer complete the booking in our home, for reasons I won't share out of respect for his privacy. The "solution" he offered was not feasible and didn't make us feel any better either. Because we were already out of state, we scrambled to find friends who could come over that evening to care for our dog while we worked with Rover to try to find a replacement sitter, which was difficult since it was a holiday weekend. By the time Rover was going to be able to find someone though, we were well past needing to decide if we were going to cut our vacation short and fly home, which we ended up having to do and lost at least $2k on nonrefundable travel expenses and concert tickets. After Matthew said he couldn't complete the booked services for the first night, he gave no further updates and we heard nothing from him until he showed up at our home around 5:00 p.m. the next day like everything was fine, well after our dog's normal feeding and potty schedule and ~20 hours after he had last checked on our dog or house. We get that the unexpected happens, but when you're responsible for someone's pet and their home you have to communicate and be reliable, and we got neither of these from Matthew. I'm sure others have had great experiences, but this was by far the worst experience we've had on Rover.

Matthew was incredible. Grab him if he is available. Best Rover experience to date. Great communicator. He sent pictures and my dog was very well taken care of. Can’t thank him enough.
