I'm currently unemployed, with plenty of free time. I'd love to spend as much time as possible caring for pets. After spending 18+ years in the sportswear industry holding various roles in marketing and merchandising, I've decided to embrace my love of pets and try and make pet care a full-time job.

Safety, trust & environment

During my dog sitting time for my two friends, I've always exhibited maximum trust and responsibility. I always try and mirror an environment the pets are accustomed to having. This includes feeding habits, bedtime preferences, what toys/games they like to play, etc. Even though I stay in their homes to look after their pets, I always leave the house as clean (if not cleaner) then when I arrived. I've also done other tasks for them, like watering plants, taking garbage/recycling bins to the street, etc. I'm comfortable managing the unexpected. While dog sitting, I've dealt with dog diarrhea, dog vomiting, a lengthy power outage, and a car alarm going off.

Information Matthew M. would like to know about your pet

I'm experienced with giving dogs daily medications in pill or chewable form. And, I'm experienced with unexpected surprises like dog vomiting and dog diarrhea. Please let me know if any special considerations are needed, and I'm confident I can oblige.

A typical day

I'll use some recent examples for each dog I've watched. Brick loves: chasing a laser-pointer around the house, playing tug-of-war with a rope toy; playing fetch with a striped tennis ball; and he really loves to be chased around the house immediately after eating a meal. Moxie loves: chasing after a rubber bouncing ball; her tail really wags when I become "The Tickle Monster" and slowly approach her waving my fingers and then she rolls onto her back and I start to gently tickle her belly.

Pet care experience

Experienced dog sitter and dog walker who prior to joining Rover has looked after seven different dogs over the last 10 years for two different friends/households. These two different friends have both had me stay in their house while they are out of town, and these overnight stays have ranged from a single night to over a week. This past experience includes dog sitting and walking three dogs at once. I'm excited to bring my pet care experience to Rover in hopes that I can expand my network of furry friends. What sets me apart? I won't be staring at my phone or otherwise distracted while caring for your pet(s). Whether I’m walking a dog or walking by myself around my neighborhood, when I see someone walking a dog that person is almost always looking at their phone/talking on their phone, or wearing earbuds/headphones. That won't be the case with me - no distractions as my total focus is on your pups. I love dogs, and I'm fascinated with how they interact with their surroundings during a walk or potty break. So, it's easy for me to stay focused on them. Another thing that sets me apart is that I love to talk to dogs and cats. I'm not mentally imbalanced - instead, it's just a fun way for me to strengthen the connection with my furry friends. And, be sure to read my Rover reviews posted by pet owners that have hired me - these glowing reviews should give you confidence in selecting me for all your pet care needs.

Matthew was perfect! I had to travel for a work trip leaving early and coming home late. My pup has an injury and needed some extra TLC and someone who would be around most of the day. Matthew was reliable, punctual, communicative, and my dog was excited to see him and looked very happy and comfortable during the stay. I would definitely book him again for my next trip.

We came home to a well cared for happy and healthy Zuzu. Mathew was extremely good at keeping us informed with updates complimented with pictures of our dog doing all things that they do. Our home was very clean when we returned from an overseas trip and our numerous plants were well watered. Should you need a true dog person, someone who demonstrates real affection towards your pet and has the highest professional standards then Mathew is your guy. We hold him in the highest regard.
