I love connecting with the animal kingdom! Please let me know what words your pet 'knows' so we can have a solid communication during our time together. Once, when I worked at a doggy day care, there was this Maltese who refused to let any of my coworkers near him. I could tell this little guy was terrified; all of these new smells, loud barks and no sign of his owner is sure to trigger a danger response in anyone! I sat with him for a couple of minutes, slowly inching my way towards him... letting him smell my hand, when out of no where he walks right over and sits on my lap! That was the first time I realized that our own emotional wisom can be applied to our loving pets, too. This other time I was on my way to walk one of my favorite regulars Lola, when I noticed a few people attempting to catch a loose mini Poodle. I completed our walk as scheduled, and when I was done... the group was still trying to catch this poor pooch! By this time, he went back to hiding under a car after running up and down the block. I asked one of the guys to bring some water for the pup. As the parched pooch began to hydrate himself, I laided on the ground and began to slowly pet him until I was able to get a safe grip on the loose skin behind his neck. With my other hand behind his bum, I slowly but swiftly slid him out from under the car and returned him to his relieved owners! In that moment, I learned how equipped I truly am to help a friend in need.
