Weekend getaway with active people
Pet care experience
We are an energetic professional couple who love animals. We have both have had pets all our lives but our busy weekday schedules prohibit us from having more than a cat at this time. We would love to sit your pet on weekends to benefit both parties! We sometimes have my fiancé’s children's dog (Pepper- you’ll see pictures of her on our profile) when the kids are home from college and visiting. We are an active couple and run on safe and quiet country roads, and hike/walk nearby conservation areas and small mountains. We even enjoy down time in front of the wood stove in winter, and on the patio in the summer. We live in a clean, country “cottage” home (picture Norman Rockwell, as we’ve been told) on three wooded acres in bucolic Columbia County just outside of the Village of Chatham, NY. We are open to all visitors, including travelers to the area who want to bring their pets Along, but can’t keep them in their own temporary accommodations (visiting your pet while in town is welcomed). I’ve fostered dogs through a local rescue, and walked dogs at a capital region shelter, so I’m very aware of various personalities among different breeds. You won’t feel guilty about getting away for a weekend. Your dog will have an exciting and adventurous time with us. Trust us, your dog is looking for a fun vacation getaway too! We can be as active or relaxed with your pet as you are comfortable with. Animals must be okay with our cat and backyard/free-range chickens.
Reviews
Mary and Todd were wonderful hosts to our 4 month old puppy, June. Everything was handled very easily and leaving her behind with such nice people was really comforting. She even got a longer walk than she would have with us!
Mary and Todd were lovely! Super communicative, dependable, and took great care of our little munchkin
Mary and Todd are the absolute best dog sitters! Their great care for our dog Toby gives us a lot of peace of mind. We know he is having a great time — it shows in the photos that Mary sends to us throughout his stay.
Mary and Todd were great! Communicated well before and during our dog’s stay. Beautiful home and property. Our dog had a great time!

We don’t have a fenced yard, but we live in a quiet country setting and won’t have dogs off leash unless we know they will respond to commands from non-owners.

Information Mary & Todd H. would like to know about your pet
We are open to all housebroken breeds as long as they are relaxed around our cat and free-range flock of seven chickens. We do have neighbors, despite our country setting, so if a dog has anxiety or barks excessively and may be disruptive, we would need to discuss the individual situation before committing.
A typical day
Walks, hikes, running (if desired). We have a number of maintained conservation areas throughout Columbia County, as well as smaller and larger hikes nearby in the Taconic and Berkshire ranges. We live on a quiet rural Town road with numerous walking and running options. Additionally, we have three wooded acres away from traffic with a calming stream and waterfall. We tap our own maple trees in late winter and make syrup in the solace of our wooded enclave.
