Services
Mary Jane can care for
Availability
I'm recently retired and would like to keep busy. Beyond daily errands, my time is my own to do with as I wish. I'm used to odd hours and I can provide coverage on relatively short notice once a "meet and greet" has taken place. Since I'm new to all of this, I find it necessary to do a "meet and greet" before booking. This way I get to meet the dog/cat and make sure they are responsive to my presence. The last thing I want is for a dog to be so scared or so protective of it's territory, that I am unable to accomplish what I was hired to do. Cats will do as they please and may be too scared to come out even for a "meet and greet", but their needs will be met (change water, feed, clean litterbox) whether they show their face or not. I always hope they will come out and not be afraid, but I understand it.

About Mary Jane D.
Communication
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
Their home is sacred to them and, of course, they are going to defend/protect it at all costs. I will keep that boundary in mind when dropping in to check on a dog or cat and make sure they are comfortable with my presence. A few days notice for new clients to set up a "meet and greet" is an absolute necessity. Once that happens though, last minute bookings are available.
Information Mary Jane D. would like to know about your pet
Let me know if your pets need special attention or have behaviors that I would need to be aware of. I can do slow, steady walks with your small or senior dog or just hang out with them for a bit giving them my undivided attention.
A typical day
I won't be doing any in home doggy daycare or overnight boarding so activities would be minimal. I'm more inclined to take your senior dog out for a slow walk, brush their coat and keep them company. Cats will let me know if they want to be petted or paid attention to. Once they trust me, I'm happy to play with them (laser pointers are a favorite) or let them sit on my lap for awhile after they have been fed.

Pet care experience
I've spent most of my life taking care of and rescuing animals - mostly cats - but dogs as well. Each animal has their own personality, quirks and mannerisms that make them uniquely loveable. Because I am getting on in age, I prefer to walk or drop in on smaller dogs or senior dogs that need a little extra loving.

Reviews

Mary Jane is an excellent cat sitter. She cares tremendously about providing top-quality service. She's always on time, completely reliable, and very, very caring. She goes above and beyond what you would expect from anybody. Highly, highly recommended. Thank you.

Once again, Mary Jane took great care of our cat. Highly recommend her if you’re looking for a trust worthy, kind and compassionate person to watch your friends .

Mary Jane took great care of our cat. She is feral and has been cared for by various neighbors over the last 16 years. We have been caring for her for about 8 years. Mary Jane took waited patiently for the cat to make her appearance and assured she had everything she needed. She updated me daily and sent photos every day. I was nervous about going away for an extended period of time. Mary Jane put me at ease when we met. She did a great job and will definitely use her again!

We love Mary Jane visiting our girls! She's very understanding of their space and their needs. We always just need a quick drop in, but she always sends us a thorough report of how they're doing.
