Working from home allows me the chance to spend the day with our dogs. I am able to take regular potty breaks, schedule time to go for a walk and play in the backyard. I do drive my girls to and from school, but living close to town means a round trip drop off only takes me 15 minutes or so.

Safety, trust & environment

My pets are a part of my family and safety is important. I have a fully fenced backyard and safe neighborhood to go on walks. I do allow our dogs on the couch so they can cuddle and I even have a ramp or stairs if needed for any smaller friends and soft cushy doggy beds for when they would rather curl up in their own space. Whether your dog is crate trained or not I will insure that I follow your preferences and will keep to the schedule you provide. Both Lucy and Finn are used to smaller dogs too. From my pug Skittles who passed away to visiting my sister and her two Maltese both of my dogs have been raised and socialized with dogs of different sizes.

Information Mary Ellen D. would like to know about your pet

I know schedules can be important so I need to know what time your pets are used to getting up in the morning and going outside (i.e. 6:30, 7, 7:30). What do they eat and how often? Are they afraid of thunder? Are they crate trained? How far do they usually go on a walk? Do they like to walk in the morning or evening? Are they allowed to go for a car ride, if properly secured? Are they allowed to have treats or are they on a special diet? Do they take any medication?

A typical day

Typically I am awake by 6:45 and getting ready for the day. I am not much of a morning person so the pups and I keep it simple until after my first cup of coffee. That gives me a chance to get going for the day and whether it is taking a walk, or tossing a toy in the backyard, maybe it is setting up an interactive feeder, or even just sitting with a cuddle bug on the couch there are so many wonderful activities to do each day that can do done with the furry family members to make them feel loved and cared for. I love to brush and put bows on...well, Finn has let it known that silly hats and headbands are not his thing so fun collars and bowties are a good substitution for him while Lucy sports the sparkly additions, but really, dogs want to spend time with their family and it can be something simple as sitting at my feet during a meeting or a planned out an afternoon of fun, the important thing is that they feel loved and know you want to spend with them. An active and engaged dog is not a board dog.

Pet care experience

Animals have been an integral part of my life since I was a child growing up on a small ranch. My dad is a retired agricultural teacher so I have had everything from hamsters as a young child, to my family dog Holly and cat Lady, to the livestock and working dogs, and even a hedgehog, a bunny, a bearded dragon, and pygmy goats with my own children. Big or small I love them all, just horses and dogs hold a special place in my heart. During high school and much of college I did work at our local vet's office and have experience with care and medication if needed. I have two wonderful furry members who are a special part of my life. Lucy, is a senior Golden Retriever and a retired hunting dog who loves to nap on her bed and make happy tippity taps with her toes to let me know she needs to go out. Finnegan is a 1yo Bernese Mountain Dog who would love nothing more than to lean against you and get some pets. Finn may seem like a really big guy, but he is filled with so much love, and is doing so well in his training to become an Autism Service Dog. Whether it is a simple walk around the neighborhood, 50 million trips in the backyard to play fetch, or simply cuddling on the couch working from home gives me the opportunity to ensure that your furry pal is well taken care of. Shadow has no concerns leaving me behind and entering Mary Ellen’ home, and Shadow is in no hurry to leave when I pick him up. I know Mary Ellen takes good care of him and gives him attention. Mary Ellen is also good on providing daily updates/pictures.
