Mary C. has owned several pets (cats and dogs) herself while growing up and as an adult, including most recently a bulldog bitch named Tirian. Tirian was always happily fed and walked every time I saw her, and her coat never showed signs of mange, matting, fleas, or distress. Tirian had the usual tail wag and quick social bark when Mary came into view, indicating a happiness to see her owner. I never saw any indication of a chain or spiked collar, left outside alone chained to a stake without shelter and water, or any sign of cowering in Mary's presence.
