Mary C. has owned several pets (cats and dogs) herself while growing up and as an adult, including most recently a bulldog bitch named Tirian. Tirian was always happily fed and walked every time I saw her, and her coat never showed signs of mange, matting, fleas, or distress. Tirian had the usual tail wag and quick social bark when Mary came into view, indicating a happiness to see her owner. I never saw any indication of a chain or spiked collar, left outside alone chained to a stake without shelter and water, or any sign of cowering in Mary's presence. As dogs routinely require more attention and management than cats, I take that as positive evidence of Mary's ability to care for and appropriately interact with most domesticated pets. Mary has dog sat for us multiple times and is good with our dogs, taking them potty and sitting over night with them. Mary is very caring and loves pets. She treats our dogs like they are her own.
