Pet care experience

Experienced dog lover and owner

My parents had dogs before I was born so I have never lived without dogs. I share my house now with my two dogs, and I am very lucky to work from home where I can be with them all day. In addition, I spent many years volunteering with a local shelter where I was a dog walker, an adoption counselor, a foster dog mom, and assisted with training classes. If you have a dog care need outside of what I have set as what I will accept, contact me because I may be able to make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

Mary is a kind and caring person who is passionate about animals. She is very patient with dogs, taking the time to understand their unique personalities and how best to interact with them. She is also respectful of existing routines and trained behaviors, making the dogs as comfortable and loved as possible. Highly recommend!

Mary is a wonderful dog sitter! She watches my 3 dogs when I’m out of town - sends pictures the whole time. She has 2 pups of her own that get along with my dogs great! Vast knowledge of dog care for all sorts of situations. Fenced in backyard & a fenced in front porch great for hanging out with the dogs on nice days. I would highly recommend her to anyone!!!

Mary is one of the kindest humans I know! I have witnessed her interact with her dogs for nearly 20 years and would not hesitate to have her take care of my fur babies. I recommend Mary wholeheartedly!

Amazing dog mom. Mary is an advocate for rescue dogs in particular but loves them all. She has an empathy for them like no other. The connection she has with all dogs is very special.

Schedule

My schedule revolves around my dogs. I have a secure, fenced-in yard and an enclosed porch, but they do spend most of their time indoors with me. When I am home, they go out every 3-4 hours, and if I am away, which is not often, I do not leave them for more than 8 hours. I am not scheduling for more than 3 months out, but if you have a specific date request beyond that, contact me and I can look at options.

Safety, trust & environment

When I host your dog at my home, he or she will be treated like part of the family. I feed my dogs twice a day, and they go out every 3-4 hours when I am not home, or more often if needed. On sunny days, my dogs also enjoy laying on my enclosed porch where I have a few dog beds set up for them. The feeding and potty schedule for your dog is up to you, so please communicate that with me if it would be different from my own dogs. On the rare occasions where I need to leave for doctor appointments or family events, I would crate your dog, or alternately, secure your dog in a small room using a baby gate if you dog cannot tolerate crating. I have two bad shoulders, and therefore I do not walk dogs, but your dog would get plenty of play time with my dogs in my house and in my yard. While I try to not have dogs on the furniture, it doesn't always work out that way, but I do have multiple dog beds in every room of my home. I also have designated areas of the couch where my dogs are allowed. I would require you to bring a leash and your dog's food when you drop him or her off. In terms of in-home visits to care for your dog, I will be sure to let them out, feed them, make sure they have water, administer medications as required, and spend about 15 minutes with them in snuggles or playtime. As mentioned above, I have two bad shoulders so I am not able to walk your dog.

Pets

A typical day

I am happy to play with and pet your dogs, talk to them, give them treats, maybe even work on training if you request it, but my colleagues (my dogs) love to play and will keep your dog entertained. If my dogs are too overwhelming for your dog, I can easily separate them.

I would like to know about any behavioral issues your dog has, any medications, always an emergency contact, your dog's typical eating and bathroom schedule, and anything about issues with your dog knowing how to escape from a fenced in yard. I would also like to know how your dog is with children since I occasionally have my nephews (all over 8 years old) over to visit.
