Safety, trust & environment
Our home serves as a safe and friendly environment for pets, and our neighborhood is in a gated community in the woods. We take pride in our clutter-free and hygienic home, designed for pet safety and comfort. Leo and Sophie, our fur babies, are up to date on their vaccinations and are neutered and spayed. Our home is equipped with smoke, carbon dioxide, and monoxide alarms and a fire extinguisher, and enhanced air filtration. We also have a fenced-in backyard, safe from debris, harmful chemicals, and pests, and it is monitored by security cameras. We have a dedicated first-aid kit for pets, a handbook for pet-related emergencies, and a quick reference guide for proper pet care and nutrition. At The Barkyard is a proud Pet Parents member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters, a national non-profit, professional pet sitting association dedicated to the welfare of pets and animals. As part of our commitment to our pets and future customers, to develop our operational aptitude, and further enhance our value to our community, our long-term objective is to earn the Certified Professional Animal Care Provider certification administered by the Professional Animal Care Certification Council. In the meantime, Mark and DJ are enrolled in courses to earn certifications in pet sitting, first aid, and CPR that will benefit our future customer pets.

Information Mark & Daniel T. would like to know about your pet
Our at-home services will comply with the local ordinance and state laws on animal welfare. We educated ourselves on insurance liabilities and restriction coverages, and researched the animal-related ordinances and laws relating to the welfare requirements of pets and animals in the County of Fluvanna and the Commonwealth of Virginia. In summary, we will do our best to accept most dog breeds to provide a fair and equitable access to and impartial service to our pet customers. Nonetheless, we are limiting acceptance to serve pet customers with specific histories or conditions relating to the stipulations provided below to protect ourselves, our pets, the pets under our care, our home, and business: -A pet with a known history of biting another animal or person, resulting in serious injury, or killing another animal. -A pet with a known history of attacking a companion animal, whether on or off the owner's property. -A pet that is registered under Virginia's Dangerous Dog Registry. -A pet with a known history of aggression by the owner. -A pet that has already been classified as "dangerous" through an investigation by local animal protection officers or state authorities. -A pet that has not or will not follow basic instructions or commands.
A typical day
We will carefully communicate and inquire with and follow the pet parent's care instructions regarding their pet's daily fun activities or routine. We recognize that each pet has unique needs, individual personas, or characteristics. Therefore, it is challenging to provide a generalized answer to this. However, with our own pets, we typically go on neighborhood walks or hikes in our county and state parks, play fetch or hide-and-seek, play with other pets in our backyard, or even use their squeaky toys to draw our pets' attention for play and engagement. Please let us know of your pet's "funtivities" during meets and greets to maximize your pet's happiness while under our care.

Reviews
Mark and Daniel are fantastic. They will love your pet as their own. They were so accommodating for our very late pick up. I can't say enough about their fantastic service!!

Mark and DJ took incredible care of our two fur babies. Luna and Millie came back happy and exhausted from all the playing in their fenced in backyard. We got twice daily updates with pictures and they even sent a bag of treats with the pictures printed out home with the girls after pick up! We cannot recommend them Enough. Professional, kind, organized, and just all around wonderful environment for our girls. We will 100% use again!
Mark and Daniel were wonderful with Sienna for her initial stay with them.

Such an amazing experience with Mark and Daniel! Our dog loves staying with them!! 100% recommend!
