Pet care experience

Daughter of a veterinarian

I am a licensed substance abuse counselor in-training and I have taken care of animals of all kinds - dogs/puppies, cats/kittens, horses, chickens, parrots (parakeets, macaws, lovebirds), fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.! I have done pet sitting and dog walking on the side for many years. My mother is a veterinarian and has her own business as a veterinary behaviorist, so I have a lot of knowledge in animal care and behavior.

Safety, trust & environment

For drop-ins, I always make sure to take ample time to play with the animal and spend as much time with them as possible. Being the daughter of a veterinarian/veterinary behaviorist, I know all about body language and how to tell if your dog is scared or uncomfortable and how to handle it, as well as how to safely handle a situation where I am approached by an unfriendly dog while walking another dog.

Marissa took such good care of our two dogs for our trips over the years. She has a huge heart for animals and I felt 100% confident that she would give them the best care and attention. She is a thorough communicator and so knowledgeable about dogs. We are very picky with who we let watch them, we aren’t the type to feel ok about doggy daycares or kennels - that makes it tough when finding options for them. We are so grateful to have had Marissa take such great care of them and let us have our minds at ease about our babies while we are away.

Marissa is Awsome! We used Marissa to walk our dogs when we first moved into our neighborhood. And we continued with her for a few years after that. She was so great with our dogs she was loving and patient with them. They always looked forward to her coming to walk them. I highly recommend her for your dogs needs.

Marissa took care of our dogs when we were on vacation on several occasions. It was always a great comfort knowing I didn’t have to worry when they were in her care. She is definitely an animal lover and will treat your pet like her own!

Marissa will take great care with the pets you care about!! She's very knowledgeable and experienced with animals. She helped out with our guinea pig and parakeet--both animals "exotics" which means in their day to day care one has to be attentive and careful to keep them happy and healthy. We trusted Marissa with our pets, you can too!!

How they are with other dogs in general and on walks (any dog-dog reactivity or aggression when passing other dogs on a walk), how they are with other people on walks (i.e., do they bark at someone walking by). Any medical conditions your dog is currently struggling with (i.e., arthritis, etc.), how they are with meeting someone for the first time. *Note* - If you use a prong collar on your dog, I will NOT use it. All dogs must have a harness/gentle leader/etc. I am completely force free and in favor of positive reinforcement.
