I grew up with many pets, from cats and dogs to lizards and small livestock. In high school, I worked for the humane society as a dog walker and cat cuddler, so I have experience with animals that may have some trauma or behavior issues they are working through. I currently volunteer as a foster for local dog rescues but enjoy caring for other animals in between my time as a foster animal parent/traveling for work. I can’t wait to meet your pet! I specialize in senior animals, animals requiring more emotional support, and animals that may require more time and attention.

I am fortunate enough to live in a quiet, spacious bungalow with a small, fenced dog run in which to care for and house your pet if you so choose. The small fenced yard is great for puppies or any animals with mobility limitations that cannot relieve themselves on walks/etc. I live in a single story bungalow, so my unit is also great for animals who may have trouble with stairs or steps. I live on a quaint, safe side street that even reactive dogs can feel safe navigating.

This was our first time being away from Giacomo since he had surgery in October and we were nervous about the time away, but Mariel gave us constant honest updates that let us know he was in good hands. She was so patient and kind. We're so appreciative of the care she gave our little man!
We have a very intelligent, very sensitive, velcro-type, 8 year old German Shepherd. We were leaving for a week and she could not come with us. We need not have worried. From the moment she met Mariel the bonding began and grew with every day that Mariel was at our house. Daily photos and videos showed the two of them snuggling, walking, and enjoying each other’s company. Besides this excellent, loving care Mariel gave our dog, the first day we left, she had to deal with a major plumbing problem, plumbers, and related general hassle. She managed it all with efficiency and grace. Mariel exceeded all our expectations and allowed us a worry-free trip away. She is simply terrific!
Mariel took excellent care of our aussie, Bear while we were gone for 4 nights. He got a tummy ache, and Mariel promptly checked in and let us know what was going on (and even cleaned up a few accidents in the house). We got home late at night, and the house was clean and tidy, and Mariel had run some laundry without us asking to make our lives even easier. We will definitely reach out again for future trips!
Mariel is the best!! She went above and beyond to care for our pups while we were out of town and made sure their routines were the same as when we are home. The dogs warmed up to her quickly and we’re obviously very happy and comfortable while we were away. She left our apartment as clean as we left it and was incredibly communicative. She also walked our pups last minute on a separate day we wanted to go out for the day and it made us feel so much better knowing they were taken care of by such a reliable and caring person. Mariel is great with dogs and we will absolutely use her again!
Mariel is a natural. Our dog is really shy and it takes him a while to trust new people. He took to her so quickly and they were best friends by the end of the day. Would highly recommend her to anyone looking
Mariel is a joy and a treasure for our Daisy, an older rescue dog who needs that extra attention. The two got along swimmingly and we received lots of pics of their activities. She’s also very responsible when it came to taking care of our house which we much appreciated! Great hire!

Schedule
I work full-time from home, as a Human Resources consultant, and have flexibility to care for and tend to your pet. I aim to maintain the schedule set by the owner and let so that they experience minimal disruption. I also can work from anywhere, including the homes of clients, if required. If you’d prefer housesitting or dog walking from your home, I will treat your property as I would your pet—with the utmost care.

- Let me know if your dog can go for walks, and what their ideal length of walk may be. In addition, is your dog reactive towards other animals they may encounter on walks and if so, how do you prefer that we manage the stimulation. Is the dog crate trained? If not, how is the dog best housed during errands or other short periods away? How regularly does your dog typically go to the bathroom and do they have any potty habits or quirks? For cats, how social is your cat and do they enjoy being handled and/or pet? Do they have any mischievous tendencies/require more supervision due to a proclivity to jump on surfaces? Are your pets allowed on furniture? How is that reinforced normally?
