Safety, trust & environment

I individualize the care to fit the needs of each pet I care for. Communication is very important to me, please let me know how I can make your pet and you happy. If your pet is social and there is a dog park, I will take them there, otherwise we will walk, hang out and play as per your pets needs. Because I have seen a lot of allergies and intolerances, I will only give your pet treats, food and such that you have approved. My family is my two kids (one in college, two cats (8 years), one dog (1 year), three cockroaches (thanks to my oldest), and my partner. We have a house with a fenced in yard in a quiet neighborhood of Alexandria. That said, walking a dog outside is a must as they need the mental stimulation of new smells and experiences and social interaction (most dogs). My dog is a male mixed breed of medium size (60 lbs), he loves everyone and likes to run around and play. Our cats are used to dogs but will avoid them for the most part and, if your dog doesn't like cats, I have gates that will stop them from interacting. If you are a cat owner and your cat is not used to dogs, I will keep my dog in my room when not outside.

Information Marie H. would like to know about your pet

Communication is important and I would like to know what your pets usually behavior is, medical needs, special precautions, dietary restrictions, exercise needs, other likes and dislikes and, for dogs, if they have friends in your neighborhood. I prefer to get introduced to new pets with their owner/s there but I know that is not always possible. Cats and dogs need playtime, mental stimulation and cuddle time, how much of each is very individual and I take time to learn your baby's preference.

A typical day

There is no typical day as each pet is an individual! That said, I like to walk dogs and, if applicable, take them to dog parks so they can get some energy out. If your dog is a bit older or has medical issues, I may restrict the walk or walk slower. If it is a sunny day, we may spend some time inside. If it rains, I will play with your dog and cuddle them. When I am at your house, I will walk your dog and do the activities you tell me your dog enjoys. For dogs with special needs, puppies, elderly, etc., I will tailor the visit to their individual needs.

Loving and experienced pet sitter

Pet care experience

I know your pet is your baby and I will care for and love them. As a pet sitter, I have cared for all kinds of pets, there is no pet I will not care for. I worked for a pet sitting company and took care of dogs ranging in size and from an 8 week old Pomeranian (less than a pound) to an adolescent Great Dane (120 lbs) and an 18 yo special needs chihuahua mix. The company often assigned me to the pets that had special needs. I have cared for sick animals and given medications (including injections) to cats, dogs, rodents and birds. I have had pets since I was 7, I started with walking sticks, mice, frogs, bunnies, guinea pigs and got a dog at 14. As an adult I have had everything from a Papillon to a Rottweiler, cats and various other animals. I have volunteered at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, which has given me a broad animal experience. I am used to watchin pets for signs of discomfort and unusual behavior as well as comfort and happiness.

Marie took wonderful care of our elderly lab, Emma! Emma has health issues, requires medication and frequent walks and Marie saw to her every need beautifully. We have had Emma only a few months and so she still adjusting to a new home. Marie was very loving and supportive.

My dog Eddie had a great time at Marie’s playing with her dog and running around her fenced yard. He came home and promptly crashed. I highly recommend Marie and will be using her again.

Marie is so great. We have an older dog and she took great care of him. Carrying him up and down our 3rd floor walk up multiple times a day because she noticed he was having arthritis flare ups. I seriously cannot recommend her enough for her attention and care for our pets.
