Pet care experience

Experienced & Loving Pet Sitter

I have a strong background in animal care, with a degree in Animal & Poultry Sciences and hands-on experience caring for dogs, cats, livestock, and many other species. I’ve worked as a veterinary technician and in a variety of animal-care settings, including nonprofit veterinary clinics, wildlife sanctuaries, private practices, and animal shelters. I have experience with animals of all ages, personalities, and needs, so hopefully I can meet the needs of both you and your pets! I’ve been walking dogs in shelter settings since I was 15, including serving as a dog-walking volunteer leader. In that role, I helped walk dogs who were available for adoption as well as more cautious or fearful dogs who required extra patience and awareness. These experiences taught me how to safely read animal body language, respect their boundaries, and adjust my approach to each individual dog. I’m comfortable with energetic pets, shy or anxious animals, senior care, medication routines, and maintaining feeding and exercise schedules. I’m also attentive to changes in behavior or health and take pet safety seriously. I’m open to working with fearful or reactive dogs when their owners feel I’m a good fit. I have personal experience caring for a rescued pit bull who can be reactive toward some dogs and people, and consistent training has made significant improvements. That experience has also given me a lot of empathy for owners who struggle to find caregivers they trust, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you are in a similar spot. While I do have experience, I genuinely just love spending time with animals! I’ll treat your pets with the same patience, care, and attention I’d want for my own. I welcome any questions or concerns you may have. I know finding the right fit for your pet can be stressful, and I’m happy to chat to make sure you feel comfortable and confident in their care.

Safety, trust & environment

When caring for pets in their home, I do my best to maintain their normal routine, including feeding, medications, exercise, and any other instructions you provide. I understand that every pet and household is different, and I’m careful to respect both. I take animal body language and behavior seriously and always give pets the time and space they need to feel comfortable with me. This is especially important with shy, fearful, or reactive animals. I’m attentive during walks and make safety a priority around doors, gates, other animals, and unfamiliar environments. I’ll also treat your home with the same care and respect I would my own. I’m happy to provide updates and photos during visits so you can have peace of mind knowing your pets are safe, comfortable, and cared for while you’re away.

Mariah is amazing! My pets absolutely love her and she is always on time and sends the cutest pictures. She's incredibly knowledgeable about animals from her experience as a vet tech, and she even helped me adopt another cat! I highly recommend booking with Mariah. She's definitely my favorite, and my pets' favorite too!

Schedule

I work a typical 8-hour schedule in Manhattan during the week, usually from 7:00 AM–3:30 PM. While my workday is 8 hours, my start and end times can vary, so I’m happy to discuss alternative times if needed to work around your pet’s schedule. I’m flexible before and after work for dog walks, drop-in visits, feeding, medication, or checking in on your pets. My weekends are much more flexible, and I’m available for multiple visits throughout the day or to spend extended time with pets who need extra company and care at home. I’m happy to work with you to find a schedule that fits both your needs and your pet’s routine!

Please let me know about any special needs, medical conditions, or other considerations your pet may have. Even if I’m not administering medication during my visit, knowing your pet’s health history and routine helps me provide the best possible care and recognize what may be unusual for them, especially in an emergency. I’m comfortable administering medications and have experience giving injections, administering inhaler doses, and working with pets who are reluctant to take pills. I’d appreciate learning about your pet’s usual medication routine and what works best for them. Medication time can be stressful, but I’m happy to work with you and your pet’s routine to make the process as calm, successful, and efficient as possible.
