Retired K9 Handler Here to Help!

About Me Hi there! I’m a lifelong dog lover and retired Los Angeles firefighter who recently relocated to Middletown. Dogs aren't just a passion of mine—they’ve been my life’s work. Over the past 17+ years, I’ve worked as a professional Search and Rescue K9 handler, raising and working alongside three incredible SAR dogs of my own and helping train dozens more toward official certification. Now in my retirement, my days revolve around outdoor adventures, active play, and giving dogs the best possible care while their owners are away. My trusty companion Mojo, a friendly rescue pup, loves meeting new playmates and welcoming guests! What Sets My Care Apart * Safe, Active, and Enriched: I walk or hike almost daily and love taking guest dogs along for the journey! Whether your pup enjoys a leisurely neighborhood stroll, learning to hike safely, or exploring new surroundings, they’ll get plenty of physical exercise and fun. * Positive, Brain-Boosting Fun: My training philosophy is rooted in positive reinforcement and reward-based training. I love watching what behaviors dogs naturally offer and shaping them into fun new "tricks." It’s an incredible bonding experience that gives dogs great mental stimulation and keeps them happily engaged. * Spacious Acreage: I have a wonderful local property with tons of room for dogs to run, play, and burn off energy in a calm, safe environment (fully fenced as of late September!). * Unmatched Peace of Mind: Being fully retired means I am almost always home! I never host or board dogs on days when I need to be away for more than a couple of hours, ensuring your pet gets round-the-clock attention, safety, and companionship. Guests and Compatibility I am completely comfortable with dogs of all sizes, breeds, and life stages—from energetic puppies to senior companions. I also occasionally foster rescue dogs, so Mojo and I are well-versed in hosting social pups who enjoy extra canine company. Need help fine-tuning your dog’s leash manners during their stay? Just ask—we can easily discuss building positive leash habits while they’re here! Reach out today to schedule a meet-and-greet. Mojo and I can’t wait to welcome your pup to their home away from home!

You won't find anyone more loving, conscientious, and reliable than Margaret to take care of your furbabies! I've known Margaret for nearly 30 years. Not only is she my best friend, she is my trusted resource for all things DOG. Margaret is a professional dog handler and trainer, using patience and positive reinforcement to help shape and sustain behavior. She is a West Point graduate, helicopter pilot, and recently retired in CT from the Los Angeles Fire Department where her pups worked as professional FEMA dogs. She is knowledgeable about canine nutrition, enrichment activities, and how consistent routines help our pups be their best, most happy selves. Most importantly, Margaret loves dogs! They bring her joy and this shines through in how she interacts and cares for them. My discerning pups love staying with Auntie M and Mojo! Your pups will too!

Being retired means my entire day is built around quality pet care! Our mornings always start with a good outdoor workout, followed by short, engaging training and exercise sessions spread throughout the day. Safety, trust & environment

Your dog’s safety and peace of mind are my top priorities. My home is nestled in a quiet, low-traffic rural area, offering a calm and peaceful setting away from busy streets. Outdoor playtime happens in a spacious, full-acre yard—completely fenced as of September 21st—giving pets a secure, massive space to run and play freely. To ensure constant security and supervision, my property is also equipped with indoor and outdoor smart cameras, so I always have an eye on my guests whether we're inside or out in the yard.

Pets

A typical day

Every day kicks off with a great long walk or trail hike, and if your dog is up for the adventure, they’re more than welcome to join the fun! Back at home, we keep things active with dedicated indoor and outdoor spaces for positive-reinforcement training, brain games, and learning fun new tricks. On rainy or extra-hot days, I even have a specialized doggie treadmill so your pup can burn off steam and stay active regardless of the weather (treadmill sessions are available upon request). From outdoor exploring to indoor enrichment, every day is packed with fun!

To ensure the safest and most comfortable stay, please let me know about any special medical or physical needs, as well as whether your dog experiences separation anxiety. It’s also helpful to know if they can be safely left loose in the house or if they prefer resting in a crate, and if they have any behavioral triggers or reactivity toward other dogs or people. The more details you share, the better I can tailor their care and keep everyone happy and safe!
