Need a Buddy for Your Best Friend?!

Hello! My name is Mara, and I would love the opportunity to meet you and your best friend! I have extensive personal and professional experience working with animals, along with a strong background in animal rescue and welfare. Through my work in rescue, I’ve cared for animals with a wide range of needs and temperaments, including administering medications, providing specialized and senior care, caring for puppies, and supporting animals through transitions and new environments. My experience extends across many species, including dogs, cats, horses, chickens, cows, aquatic pets, and reptiles. I’m comfortable working with a wide variety of dog breeds, sizes, personalities, and energy levels, and I understand the importance of providing each animal with individualized care, patience, attention, and plenty of love. I currently live with our five large dogs , so animals are very much a part of my everyday life. Whether I’m caring for a playful puppy, a senior pet, an animal with special needs, or simply providing companionship while you’re away, my goal is always to make your pet feel safe, comfortable, loved, and well cared for. My rescue and animal welfare experience has taught me to be attentive to the little things—changes in behavior, appetite, energy, or body language—and to treat every animal as an individual. I would love the chance to learn more about you and your pet and discuss how I can help. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I look forward to meeting you and your best friend!

Mara did an amazing job watching our dog for a long weekend and left our home nice and tidy. She was professional, communicative, and knowledgeable from the very start. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a petsitter!

Mara is wonderful! She is extremely responsible, and made sure our dogs and house were well cared for while we were away for 3 nights. She is kind, obviously loves dogs (she has started a dog rescue in town) and our two sensitive dogs immediately relaxed when they met her. We came back from our trip to find happy pups and a spotless house! Highly recommend Mara!

Schedule

Pet care fits very naturally into my daily life. I currently work a flexible schedule that allows me to have significant control over my availability, which means I can accommodate a variety of pet-care needs and schedules. I’m happy to work with your pet’s existing routine as much as possible, whether that means morning walks, midday check-ins, medication schedules, evening visits, overnight care, or simply providing companionship while you’re away. I understand that consistency is important to animals, and I’ll do my best to keep their normal schedule and habits intact. Because my schedule is flexible, I’m also able to adapt when a pet needs a little extra time, attention, or care. Whether you have a busy workday, an unexpected change in plans, a puppy who needs frequent potty breaks, a senior pet who needs additional support, or simply want someone to give your best friend some company, I’m happy to see how I can help. My goal is to make pet care convenient and stress-free for both you and your pets. I’m flexible, dependable, and happy to find a schedule that works for everyone! 🐾

Safety, trust & environment

Whether your pet stays with me or I care for them in the comfort of their own home, my goal is the same: to provide a safe, loving, enriching environment where they feel comfortable and cared for. In my home: Pets staying with me become part of the household—not simply guests. I provide plenty of attention, companionship, playtime, enrichment, and opportunities for exercise and decompression. I believe pets thrive when they can maintain a sense of routine while also receiving plenty of affection and interaction. My own animals are an important part of my home, so I take introductions, personalities, energy levels, and individual needs seriously. I work to ensure everyone is comfortable and set up for success, and I follow each pet’s feeding, medication, exercise, and care instructions as closely as possible. In your home: When I care for your pets in their own environment, I understand how important it is to maintain their normal routine. I’ll follow your instructions regarding meals, medications, walks, playtime, potty breaks, litter boxes, and any other household or pet-care needs. I also pay close attention to behavior and body language so I can recognize when something feels different or when your pet may need additional attention. I’m happy to provide updates and photos so you can relax knowing your best friend is being well cared for. For dogs, I believe that walks should be more than simply getting from point A to point B. Whenever appropriate, I incorporate structured walks and sniff walks, allowing dogs time to explore their environment and get important mental stimulation. For cats, I like to provide interactive play and opportunities to engage their natural instincts through appropriate toys and enrichment. Most importantly, I treat the pets in my care as individuals and as part of the family. My background in animal rescue and welfare has given me experience with a wide variety of breeds, species, personalities, and special needs, and I bring that same patience, attentiveness, and compassion to every animal I care for. Whether I’m welcoming your pet into my home or stepping into theirs, you can expect dependable, thoughtful, and genuinely loving care.

Pets

A typical day

I believe pet sitting should be about more than simply feeding your pet and making sure they’re safe. I want your pets to have a genuinely enjoyable experience while you’re away, while keeping their normal routine as consistent as possible. I’ll follow your pet’s usual schedule for meals, walks, potty breaks, medications, naps, bedtime, and downtime whenever possible. Maintaining familiar routines can help pets feel more secure and comfortable, especially when their people are away. For dogs, activities may include: * 🐕 Sniff walks and leisurely neighborhood walks * 🎾 Fetch, tug, and other favorite games * 🧩 Puzzle toys and food-based enrichment * 👃 Scent games and “find it” activities * 🦴 Appropriate chew time * 🌲 Outdoor exploration and supervised adventure time * 🏃 Age- and energy-appropriate exercise * 🛋️ Plenty of cuddle and relaxation time * 🧠 Basic training reinforcement using their existing cues and routines I especially love incorporating sniffing and scent-based enrichment into a dog’s day. Allowing dogs to stop, investigate, and explore with their noses provides valuable mental stimulation and can be just as important as physical exercise. For cats, activities may include: * 🪶 Interactive wand and prey-style play * 🐭 Toys that encourage stalking, chasing, and pouncing * 🧩 Treat puzzles and food enrichment * 📦 Exploring boxes, tunnels, and new safe spaces * 🪟 Window watching and environmental enrichment * 🐾 Hide-and-seek or “find the toy” games * ❤️ Cuddles and one-on-one attention—when they want it! I also understand that not every pet wants constant activity, and that’s perfectly okay. Some pets are happiest with a few adventures followed by a long nap, while others want to play all day. I’ll pay attention to your pet’s personality, body language, age, energy level, and comfort zone and tailor our activities accordingly. My goal is for your pet to feel happy, mentally stimulated, comfortable, and secure while you’re away—not like their normal life has been put on pause. I’ll keep their routine familiar while adding plenty of fun, enrichment, affection, and individualized attention along the way. 🐾❤️

Before caring for your pet, I like to learn as much as I can about their individual personality, routine, preferences, and needs. Every animal is different, and knowing the little things ahead of time helps me provide care that feels familiar, comfortable, and stress-free. I like to know about their normal feeding, potty, exercise, sleep, and medication schedules, as well as their favorite activities, toys, treats, and ways they like to receive affection. I also want to know about any medical conditions, allergies, special needs, medications, fears, anxieties, triggers, or behavioral quirks that may affect their care. It’s especially helpful to know how they interact with other animals, children, and new people, as well as any leash behaviors, escape tendencies, resource guarding, reactivity, or other safety considerations. For cats, I like to know their litter box routine, favorite hiding spots, preferred type of play, and how they communicate when they want attention—or space. Most importantly, I want to know what makes your pet uniquely your pet. What makes them happy? What comforts them when they’re nervous? What are their favorite things? What should I avoid? And is there anything you think someone caring for them absolutely needs to know? My goal is to maintain their normal routine as much as possible while giving them plenty of individualized attention, enrichment, patience, and love. The more I know about your best friend ahead of time, the better I can care for them just like you would. 🐾❤️
