I’m a dog person without a dog!
I grew up with dogs and have been walking friends and neighbors dogs since I was a teen. There is nothing I love more than a long rambling walk with a curious and joyful dog. (Except maybe returning home with them to curl up together!) Unfortunately my apartment wont let me have a dog of my own, so I am hoping to get some quality dog time with the canines of Del Ray and Old Town Alexandria.

Safety, trust & environment
I do not accept in- home boarding for either cats or dogs. Instead I will come to you, and follow whatever rules and safety precautions you have in place for your home. My cat is very "door curious" so I am experienced with keeping animals away from open doors and windows. I trained and walked dogs in high school so I am experienced with canines of all sorts!

We highly recommend Mara! Her visits were full of joy and energy, and each day that passed I could just see, in the cute photos that she’d send us regularly, that our cat was drawing closer and closer to her. He was very content and happy and those are big ‘wins’ for traveling cat parents. We will definitely reach out to Mara again.

Mara has watched my cats several times now when I had to be out of town. She is a caring, conscientious, and communicative sitter. My cats can be complicated, especially because one of them has a complex and unusual medical history and can be reactive. Mara has handled everything extremely well. She’s gained both cats’ trust and has flexibly adapted when the situation required it, for example extending her visits and adding extra check-ins as needed. I 100% would recommend to anyone in the area looking for cat care, including for cats with special needs or behavioral issues.

Mara was great! Easy to communicate with, considerate with Sadie, and left the house in great condition.
Mara was the first sitter I used through Rover, and I was admittedly a little nervous about the whole process, especially the idea of entrusting a stranger with my two most precious pups. But Mara was incredible and calmed any nerves I had going into it. She was willing to meet with me in advance which allowed me the chance to get to know her and introduce her to the boys. And she was patient and kind and gave off such a warm and genuine vibe that I knew right away that the boys were in good hands. Unfortunately while we were gone, through no fault of her own, one of my dogs had some digestive issues, and Mara went above and beyond to take care of him and make sure he was feeling ok. Mara was communicative and available, the boys loved her, and I just can't recommend her enough.

I am free weekends and most evenings after my 9-5. I work in the city so unfortunately I am not available before 6pm on week days.
