I’m available almost every day throughout the summer, including weekdays and weekends for boarding. During the fall, winter, and spring, I’m still available most days and happy to work around your schedule to make sure your pet gets the care they need.

A typical day
Every dog is different, so I adapt each day to their energy level and personality. For high-energy dogs, I love going for runs, playing fetch, or heading to the park for a good walk and some mental stimulation. I’m a runner myself, so I’m more than happy to keep up with active pups who need to burn off energy! For more relaxed or senior dogs, I’m super patient—we go at their pace, take slow walks, and enjoy plenty of cuddle time and calm companionship. I always make sure pets get a mix of exercise, play, and rest, along with lots of attention and love throughout the day.

I’ve been caring for dogs since I was a kid, and I’ve always had a deep love for animals - big, small, shy, or energetic! Over the years, I’ve looked after dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and temperaments, including puppies, seniors, and rescue pets. I'm patient, observant, and always adapt my care to fit each pet’s unique personality and needs. Whether it’s providing a calm environment for a nervous pup, giving extra attention to a senior dog, or playing with high-energy pets who love adventure, I make sure every animal feels safe, loved, and cared for like family.

Our second time with Makena. She was amazing. Our backcountry canoe trip ended up taking longer than we expected, and not only did Makena stay an extra day to care for our dog, she also reached out to other family members who were not reachable via our Sat phone, letting them know all was ok. And on top of that, our very old dog was super happy and relaxed when we returned. Makena, our whole paddling group sends you a big thank you!

Makena did such a great job with our challenging old lady! Our dog is not always easy, but Makena handled her really well and has a nice gentle way with her that made me very comfortable. She shared photos and provided updates so we knew all was well, plus was super timely for all our interactions. No hesitation in recommending Makena!
