I am a student at UAA, currently work at a vet clinic, and have several outside commitments in preparation for vet school, so my schedule can get busy! However, I always make sure your pets is a priority, and am more than happy to discuss my scheduling in very specific detail with you. I completely understand if your pets needs do not align with my schedule, but would love to touch base to see if we could make it work! Weekends are my best availability, but I specialize in staying at your home so that your animal has the comfort and familiarity of somewhere they know! I prefer to stay overnight to ensure as much care and time can be given to them, which works well with my class and work schedule because I can stop by and check on your babies multiple times a day!

Whether it’s cuddles, frisbee, or a good long walk, anything your pet needs it will get! Spoiling your babies while you’re away eases the burden of you being gone, and I will do absolutely everything to make sure your pets are as comfortable as possible.

A typical day
Whatever your normal daily activities are I will follow! We will go for walks, play with toys, get spoiled with brushing and pets, and everything in between. I love to take dogs for car rides and walks somewhere out and about for a new adventure, and pup cups are always a special treat if allergies aren’t an issue :)

Thank you so much for your consideration and reading my profile! I am comfortable with animals of all sizes large and small! I’ve worked as a ranch hand and ridden horses for many years and have a special love for them. I am a NAVTA certified veterinary assistant, a fear free certified handler, have dog/cat first aid + CPR certification, currently work at a general practice veterinary clinic, and have countless of hours of experience of petsitting, shelter work, and more, so you can rest assured your babies are in good hands! I know all about the quirks and special things needed to make all kinds of animals happy ♥️ I am typically very flexible with your needs! The information on here is not set in stone and I pride myself in being affordable and reliable while providing exceptional pet care. My calendar fills up quickly from both Rover and outside bookings, but please do not hesitate to reach out even if I have dates booked on my calendar! All funds that I receive from petsitting are put towards getting my own horse and saving for veterinary school. I am incredibly grateful for your trust and support.

Makena was amazing with our two dogs and our cat. She communicated really well, sent lots of updates and photos, and made us feel totally at ease while we were away. All of our pets were happy, relaxed, and clearly very well cared for when we got home. She also left our house super clean, which was such a nice bonus. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great sitter.
Makena was absolutely wonderful to work with! My little Scottish terrier loved her immediately which is not typical of him. She was always on time and very communicative. Highly recommend her and will continue to book her whenever possible!
We have used Makena several times to house / pet sit. We have 2 female German Shorthaired Pointers who are highly active dogs. The girls LOVE her! We have never had any concerns about Makena handling our dogs. We left specific instructions so that she would be familiar with the commands our girls are used to, and the girls abide her commands. Makena's communication is top notch along with her kind and caring demeanor. She isn't hesitant to ask questions, nor be direct with commands with the girls if needed. She is super personable, reaponsible, and has a bubbly yet respectful personality. We are super bummed that she's not available in Eagle River any more but excited for her new adventures in Fairbanks. She is greatly missed and well loved by all of us.
Makena was a responsible, trustworthy, and reliable pet sitter for my kitties and I was sad to see her move away for college. The cats were well taken care of and happy when I got home. Makena visited as scheduled and did everything I asked for a reasonable price. I wish her the best in Fairbanks. Recommended A++
