A typical day

Days can look pretty different for cats and dogs and depending on if an animal is high energy or more mellow, and very social or shy! I would love to customize the experience for the individual pet's needs whether that be taking a long walk, cuddling on the couch, or playing with toys in the living room.

Pet care experience

When I think about my interests in life, animals are at the very top of the list. I've always had pets from large dogs to timid cats and have a lovely 9 year kitty at home now. Previously, I also walked dogs via Wag and still have an active 5 star rating! Earlier this year, I joined a nonprofit cat rescue as a volunteer and I go to HQ multiple times a week to look after a large number of cats, including ferals, kittens, medical kitties, and anyone else awaiting a foster home. I feed them, clean their crates and litter boxes, administer any requested medication, socialize them and offer play and pets, take photos for social media and adoption listings, occasional rescue support, occasional medical transportation, and occasional admin support for online cat profiles. Not only do I have bounds of love for animals, but also compassion. I love to help socialize animals that may be anxious or just need some extra patience, understanding, and kindness. Every animal deserves attention and to have their physical and emotional needs met :)

Maggie Silverman has been an invaluable volunteer at our nonprofit cat rescue headquarters at least twice a week for the past four months. From the beginning, she has demonstrated exceptional dedication, initiative, and reliability, consistently taking on a growing number of responsibilities without being asked. Each task, however large or small, is always followed through with and summarized to me so that I am always looped in with the current happenings of all of our foster cats. Maggie pays close attention to detail and takes great care to ensure every task is completed accurately and thoroughly to prevent disease transmission as well as to enhance the enrichment of each cat’s everyday life. She takes interest in learning the unique personality differences between the cats, including their meal and treat preferences, optimizing their critical decompression time and socialization period directly after they are rescued off the streets and always ensuring they are receiving proper nutrition. As this is a volunteer role, I do not expect perfect attendance and am understanding of last minute cancellations as I know our volunteers have other commitments and this cannot always be prioritized. But Maggie has shown up punctually every single scheduled shift, has never canceled or no-showed, and often times ends up staying longer to provide meaningful socialization or syringe feeding to sick kittens who could use a few more mL’s of food. Maggie also takes safety very seriously; she is cautious to wash her hands between each crate and has specific volunteering clothes to eradicate any possibility of transmission after leaving our location. Her compassion for the animals is evident in everything she does, treating each cat as if it were her own beloved pet. She has become a trusted and integral member of our team, and her contributions have had a meaningful impact on our organization. When I am traveling I trust Maggie fully with the care of not only our double digit list of fosters but also my own personal 5 cats, who are all sure to get an equal amount of love and attention in my absence. I cannot recommend Maggie highly enough and am confident she will be an asset to any team or organization fortunate enough to have her.

Maggie is definitely a cat whisperer. I think they sense her patience and kindness because they love her the way she loves them. My dogs love her too! She is also very reliable and does what she says she will do. I give Maggie a 100% confidence vote with both cats and dogs.

I met Maggie on a neighborhood app after looking for someone care for my cats while I was away. I needed someone who would be comfortable administering medication to an elderly cat. We spoke for a while online before meeting her in person. Right away I knew she was the person I was going to hire. She expressed a deep love for animals. She shared her experience as a volunteer at a local rescue for cats, her experience walking and taking care of dogs as well. She is a woman who has a deep love of animals. Everytime I am away, she gives detailed updates that include photos of my cats. One cat was not very warm to Maggie in their initial meeting and through love and persistence, Maggie won him over and gained his trust. She did not give up. She really cared about making sure he was comfortable with her. I think Maggie would be an excellent person to hire for any service that involves animals as she has shown me that the actual care of the animal is important to her.
