Mage can care for

Cats

Availability

I only drive in daylight hours, I have a mostly open/flexible schedule. I only take on cats, so my clients don't need an evening visit. If you need an evening visit due meds or something, as long as it's before dark we can make that work.

Safety, trust & environment

For the time being I am able to care for cats in the client's home, to feed, give love to, play, and then leave. If your pet has special needs, we can discuss if it is something I could reasonably handle. I can't take anyone's pets into my home, unfortunately.

Information Mage J. would like to know about your pet

I will always ask before the Meet & Greet if any pets in the house have medications, conditions, or behaviors to be aware of, and what humans I'll be meeting. Upon arrival I will want to meet them if possible (sometimes they are hiding too well and I understand). I will want to see the catbox(es), the food and water, any of their favorite things (snuggle spots, toys, blanket, whatever), and the location of any cleaning products I may need (even if your baby never has an accident, they are more likely to while anxious about missing their humans and a stranger in the house). I will also ask for a window of time that you will be comfortable with, or if they have a very specific feeding time. And just anything else that you might think is important to know! I believe the app asks for the vet information, but if your cat takes meds or has ongoing medical problems, I'd love that info to be on the fridge or somewhere easy to find, and to know where the cat carrier is, just in case.

A typical day

Since I just take on cats, I do the usual care routine (food, water, catbox, meds) and then make sure that the remaining time is for play or snuggles, whatever the kitty wants. I do take the occasional spicy kitty, in which case I do the routine, and stay out of their way. No one should be forcing attention on a cat that doesn't want it. I will always insist on a Meet & Greet before booking with new clients.

Experienced Pet Caretaker

Pet care experience

I'm in the Chambana/Rantoul area. I started caring for pets through Rover in Fall 2023. I only drive in daylight, so I only take cats now, because dogs need a bedtime potty break. Of the cats I've cared for through this app, some have been elderly, taken meds, had special diets, or been varying levels of spicy. So far I haven't had a house I wouldn't return to. 😀 I've had and loved animals for my whole life, and helped care for friends' and families' pets since I was a teenager. For 6 years I cared for a cat with diabetes and feline herpes, which caused chronic dry eye in one of his eyes. I was able to inject his insulin and give him eye-drops twice a day during his meal times. That was over a decade ago, so I would need a refresher to feel comfortable injecting someone's kitty. For 2 years I cared for an elderly black lab during holidays while the family traveled. She was the sweetest girl. She didn't require too much extra help except sometimes to get up if her back end was hurting. She is the only dog my kitties ever liked. In 2020 one of my own cats had a luxating patella (sliding back knee) that required surgery. It was a long recovery but she can walk and run now. I am still working on her extra weight from the time that she couldn't be active, and had to eat extra food to take the pain meds. Other than that, in my lifetime, I have had 6 cats and 3 dogs. I've trained 2 dogs from puppies (basic commands and manners).
