Farm Getaway for Dogs

Although we are new to the area, we are definitely not new to caring for dogs. We recently purchased the well-known dog kennel in Smithsburg and are in the process of restoring it. Parts of the kennel are already fully functional, and we’re excited to begin welcoming dogs while we continue improving the property. It’s a place many people in the community already know, and we feel lucky to be able to carry on its history. Dogs have always been a big part of my life. I grew up with them and honestly can’t remember a time when I didn’t love being around them. That same love has followed me into adulthood. Over the years I’ve naturally become the neighborhood go-to pet sitter. Friends, neighbors, and family have trusted me with their pets for years, and I always care for them the same way I care for my own dogs — with patience, attention, and lots of affection. One of the things I’m most proud of is the therapy work I did with my dog. I trained and certified her as a therapy dog, and for 10 years we volunteered together in hospitals and nursing homes. That experience actually inspired my career path, and I went on to become a certified occupational therapist. My sweet therapy dog has since passed away after a long and wonderful life. She was incredibly special to me. I’m now starting that journey again with my new puppy, Merango, and hope to continue therapy work in the future. Right now I’m taking some time away from my occupational therapy work to focus on renovating and restarting the kennel. It’s something I’ve always dreamed about doing, and I’m excited to bring new life to a place that so many people in the community already know. I also have experience caring for senior dogs and dogs with medical needs, including giving medications like insulin injections. Our property has large outdoor fenced runs that give dogs plenty of space to move around and enjoy the fresh air in a quiet farm setting. injections.

Mady was great, Tanner loved her and his time spent with her. Lots of space for him to run around and do zoomies with her dog. We would recommend Mady for anyone looking for a boarder. Mady is our new #1.

Mady was a complete doll with our medium-sized bundle of licks and tail wags. Our dog fell in love with her and it’s almost hurtful how much Scallywag looks forward to walks with Mady. She can hear Mady talk to the doorman and starts to go bonkers. Mady is reliable, punctual, and so sweet! We want her to start walking our children. Well worth the price and tip. We will be using her consistently for the foreseeable future!

Mady is GREAT!! I would highly recommend her. You can tell when someone is a dog lover and she definitely is. She is very responsible and I feel so safe sending my dogs out with her. I can tell they love her and she loves them. So happy I found her.

My dog has never been so happy!!! Mady has formed a deeply personal - friendship relationship with my dog. My dog is full of energy and Mady has done a great job focusing all that energy into fun romps and walks! I can always tell through my dogs happiness the days that Mady has walked him.

I highly recommend Mady. She was so gracious and always on time. My dog Ash seemed to have a lot of fun with her and she helped me a great deal taking care of him. I will definitely work with her again.

Schedule

I’m currently focused on renovating and restoring the kennel property, which allows me to be home most of the day and provide consistent supervision and care for the dogs staying with us. We are early risers in our home and typically start the day around 7 AM with potty breaks and breakfast. Mornings are usually spent outside enjoying the property — going on walks around our 20-acre farm or spending time in the fenced runs while I do morning chores. Around lunchtime everyone, animals included, usually settles in for a quiet rest period. I check that everyone has fresh water and food if needed before nap time. In the mid-afternoon we head back outside for more activity. Depending on the dog, this may include running in the fenced fields, exploring the property on a guided walk, or simply relaxing in the fresh air. Dinner is around 6 PM, followed by a calm evening inside. We finish the day with a final potty break and check-in before bedtime around 9 PM. My goal is to give dogs a peaceful farm stay with plenty of space to move, fresh air, and a consistent routine so they feel comfortable and relaxed while they’re away from home

Safety, trust & environment

I understand how much trust it takes to leave your dog in someone else’s care. When I first started using Rover for my own dogs, I remember feeling nervous too. I always appreciated sitters who kept me updated, so I make a point to do the same. I’m happy to send photos and updates so you can see how your dog is doing and feel confident they’re happy and well cared for. On our property, dogs have access to spacious individual indoor/outdoor kennel runs where they can relax comfortably. We also have several large fenced areas where dogs can safely run, play, and explore. Safety is always my top priority, and dogs are supervised during outdoor time to make sure everyone stays happy and secure

A typical day

A typical stay here is meant to feel like a relaxed farm getaway for dogs. Many dogs love exploring the smells and sights of the property, spending time in our large fenced areas, or joining me on guided walks around the farm. Some dogs enjoy playing and running, while others prefer to relax in the sun or quietly watch what’s happening around them. I try to tailor the day to each dog’s personality and energy level. Dogs also get plenty of attention and interaction throughout the day. Whether it’s playtime, outdoor exploration, or simply relaxing nearby while I go about chores on the property, they’re part of the daily rhythm here. My goal is for every dog to feel comfortable, safe, and cared for — and to go home happy and tired from a fun stay on the farm

Before a stay, I like to know your dog’s routine, personality, and any medical or behavioral needs. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can make their stay safe and comfortable.
