Pets

Safety, trust & environment

When caring for pets in a client’s home, my goal is to create a calm, comfortable, and familiar experience that reduces stress for both the animal and their owner. I’m Fear Free Certified, which means I use proven, science-based techniques to minimize fear, anxiety, and stress during every visit, and let your pet set the pace for interactions. I carefully observe body language and behavior to understand how each animal is feeling and adjust my approach accordingly. Some pets want belly rubs right away; others need space and quiet before warming up, and that’s okay! I respect each animal’s boundaries and do my best to build trust at their own pace. Whether I’m feeding, walking, playing, cleaning up, or administering medications, I stay attuned to your pet’s routine and emotional needs. I’ve worked with animals of all ages, sizes, and temperaments, including shy cats, high energy dogs, senior pets, and those with special medical needs. You’ll receive updates after every visit, including photos and notes on how your pet is doing, so you can travel or be away from home knowing your best friend is happy, safe, and well cared for.

Mackenzie was great! She helped with my dog with special needs (deaf, partially blind) over the holidays. She communicated well with updates and pictures every day, and she worked through some bad winter weather! I am very particular with who I trust with my dog, and we would definitely use her again.

Great and thoughtful care particularly given we had a recently adopted and skittish rescue dog! Photos and videos showed our girl happily eating, running, resting with her dog. Having had our dog only a month before we had a long scheduled family vacation, Mackenzie was a wonderful discovery and relief to us.

Mackenzie was amazing with our 10 month old pup Barley. We can’t wait to have her back!

Mackenzie is awesome! She’s taken care of our little pack several times now. Both times one of the pups has had something come up. The first time she noticed one of our dogs was bothered by something with her ear, and the second time the same pup had some indigestion. As a pet owner, I’d love to believe nothing bad will ever happen to our babies, or that we could always be there. Second best is having someone like Mackenzie who you can trust with your best furry friends. Whenever we go away - we ask to see it Mackensie is available to watch our dogs!

Mackenzie is the biggest animal lover that I know. Her love of animals is exemplified by her dedication to her vet school studies. She has watched my dog Polly multiple times, and I have no concerns while I'm away from my dog. There is truly no one better to walk or look after your dog while you're away.

Schedule

My schedule is flexible since I am working from home this summer, which allows me to easily fit in drop-in visits, playtime, feeding, and medication administration around my responsibilities. Because I’m already in the mindset of monitoring animal behavior, health, and well-being every day, pet care feels like a natural and rewarding extension of what I love to do. Whether it's checking in on a senior dog or spending extra time with a nervous kitty, I make it a point to build genuine connections and ensure your pet’s routine stays uninterrupted and stress-free, even when you're away.

Before caring for any pet, I like to learn as much as I can so I can provide personalized, low-stress care. It’s especially helpful to know: 1)Their daily routine (feeding times, bathroom habits, play preferences) 2)Any medical conditions, allergies, or medications 3)How they respond to new people, loud noises, or other animals 4)Triggers, fears, or things that make them anxious (e.g., vacuum cleaners, thunderstorms) 5)What helps them feel safe and comfortable (favorite toys, hiding spots, calming strategies) 6)How they communicate (signs of stress, excitement, or wanting space) 7) What are their favorite rewards Since I'm Fear Free Certified, I focus on reading body language and adjusting my handling style to fit each animal’s comfort level. Whether your pet is shy, reactive, or just quirky, I’m here to meet them where they are and give them care that feels safe and familiar.
