While we are in medical school, we are in different stages (Kenzie doing research and light clinical work and Jake doing heavier clinical work) allowing for a lot of flexibility for taking care of dogs. Kenzie has the ability most days to to be home for much of the day, while Jake is usually in the hospital during business hours on the weekdays. - We are both usually home during the evenings - Wake up between 6-8am - Able to provide a midday bathroom break/walk - We work as a team to take care of the dogs and communicate frequently about who is doing what each day

Some things to know about our space/care: - No current pets in the home - We live in a third floor condo, so dogs will need to be able to do two flights of stairs - Dogs usually have free rein in our home, but we are comfortable with crate-trained dogs too (we have an XL crate) - We try to only be gone for a maximum of 6-8 hours (this is rare and depends on the dog) - We tend to avoid introductions with other dogs/people on walks and dog parks when dog sitting, as these can be unpredictable - Dogs are allowed on our couches and beds - If any of our friends stop by, we supervise safe introductions outside first with lots of treats (dog-dependent of course) We have treats, chews, kongs, lick mats, toays, tennis balls, two dog beds, a 48 inch crate, and dog bowls that we are happy to use with dogs who stay with us! We also have a doggy camera if that is something you prefer to use with your dog!

Information Mackenzie B. would like to know about your pet
We prefer to do a meet and greet with your dog at our apartment before they stay with us so everyone is comfortable with us and our space! Additionally, we are happy to do texting updates during visits with pictures (rather than through rover chats). We would like to know before your dog stays with us: - Have they stayed with anyone before? How did it go? - What is their normal routine? How do they do being home alone? - Any special circumstances we should know about with your dog (health problems, reactivity, not good with dogs/people, etc)? -Does your dog counter surf/do they get into food or trash? We do ask that your dog gets a bath before coming to stay with us if this is possible for them (and understand this is not in the cards for all dogs). We are happy to offer a discount to foster dogs and people experiencing financial hardship. We are unable to take dogs who have/are: - destructive behaviors - not potty trained (we know accidents happen though!) - excessive barking (want to keep our neighbors happy with us!) - very young puppies (apartment not set up for them)
A typical day
While we are not ready to have our own pup just yet, we LOVE having dogs stay with us. - Our apartment is a quiet space with plenty of great spots for naps (dogs tend to love our back deck for sunbathing and people watching) - We always give lots of pets, cuddles, and plenty of play time each day - We are near Forest Park, and we love to go for walks (short or long depending on the dogs needs) - We love to go for excursions around the city if your dog enjoys that (walking in different parks, breweries, coffee shops, etc.) - We have an SUV and are happy to take dogs for drives with your permission

Reactive-Dog Trained Med Students
Pet care experience
Myself and my boyfriend, Jake, are both medical students who love providing a comfortable, safe, fun home for dogs while their parents are traveling. We love getting our dog fix and helping out community members. We also foster dogs when not dog-sitting to help them destress from the shelter and get adopted. We are comfortable with all breeds/sizes and reactive dogs. We always strive to give the best care possible to all pets and provide clear communication with owners. About Kenzie: I grew up with a high energy, dog-reactive rescue border collie and then had an older dog-reactive rescue pit bull. I have done training to learn how to handle reactivity with my previous dogs, as well as with some of the dogs I have fostered. For my foster dogs, I work hard to start the leash, crate, and general training process to set them up for success with their future parents. I have dog sat and farm sat (all types of animals) all throughout my life. I also have two horses back home! About Jake: I didn't grow up with animals, but my family now has a Jindo back home. I have learned a lot about dog body language, safe handling, and how to make reactive and/or stressed dogs feel comfortable through the many dogs that have come through Kenzie's house and our fostering adventures.
Reviews

Our dog, Kermit, always loves staying with Kenzie! She gets lots of love, attention, and playtime! Kenzie is a great communicator and we are always confident that our dog is well cared for while we are away.

Kenzie takes such amazing care of our pup! We've booked with her several times now and can't recommend her enough. We especially love the updates/photos!

Mackenzie was great. Frank had such a good time. She kept us informed and updated us about all the adventures Frank was able to go on.

Couldn’t be more comfortable with leaving my pup for a quick trip or vacation. Kenzi has an obvious love for animals. She treated Sam like one of her own. They went on lots of walks and trips around town to include a local cafe near her home where Sam got to relax and get plenty of pets. Kenzi also surrounds herself with other animal lovers which was nice knowing sam would always be in good company and was loved and well taken care of.
