I have a school age daughter, and a terrier mix who roams freely, so we’re very mindful about keeping floors and common areas clear of anything that could pose a choking hazard or safety risk. Same goes with the outside. I provide close supervision in a normal household activity and everyday sounds like TV or music. My dog is crate trained; however, we typically use a playpen if a secure space is needed. I am happy to follow each pet's parent's preferences regarding crating, feeding routines, and supervision to ensure every dog feels safe and comfortable.

A typical day starts with a morning potty break and set food and water out. I work from home, so I keep a dog bed and toys in my home office. My dog hangs out there during the day. Throughout the day, dogs have access to the yard, out side my office door, and short play sessions to avoid boredom (like throw ball down the hall). Sometimes I take walks during my lunch. Once my daughter gets home from school, she plays with our dog: running around the house or with her toys. In the evenings, and on weekends, dogs enjoy more active playtime and family interactions. This is where they might stay home alone for 1-2 hours, if my daughter has practice.
