Information Lyra & Scott H. would like to know about your pet
Please let us know if your dog is social and friendly with other dogs or not. We accept more than one dog at a time (typically no more than 2), but Rover does not always reflect this. Accordingly, we need to know if your dog is safe and comfortable around other dogs prior to booking so we may plan accordingly. Dogs that are aggressive with other dogs and must be boarded solo may require us to apply added fees for blocking out our calendar.
A typical day
Our children like to play with dogs that board at our house. We typically take your dog out for 1-2 walks per day around the neighborhood, and regular breaks in our backyard throughout the day.

Pet care experience
After getting married, my husband and I both knew that we wanted dogs to be apart of our family. We both grew up with dogs, and cherished the lasting memories that our family pets left with us even though we were no longer at home. During the early years of our marriage we fostered several dogs from a variety of breeds, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We took a break from fostering, moved a handful of times, had a few kids, and over the past couple of years began opening our home to our friends’ pets when they needed a place to go. We have a spacious yard for your pet to explore and I am home full time. Our neighborhood is great for taking walks and our home is ideally situated near several parks and Colonial Williamsburg. We had been long-term sitting a dog from November 2018 - October 2020 for a family that was stationed overseas, so our kids are used to having animals in the house. We also have experience giving her medications. We know that every animal is unique and has different routines, habits, and preferences, and we want your pet to feel right at home while under our care. Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can make the time with our family a great experience for your pet! Note on dog boarding: if dog is not picked up at or around the same time of day as it is dropped off, a partial-day fee may be added on to the stay. E.g., if a dog is dropped off in the morning and picked up the next evening, a half-day fee will be added. We both work from home full time, so your dog will be like part of the family for the duration of their stay with us. Our backyard is naturally enclosed though not fenced. We take your dog outside on the leash at regular intervals for breaks and walks. We have young children who enjoy playing with dogs that board with us, but they are also used to older or lower energy dogs who prefer to be left alone. We have a long tether set up in our backyard so your dog can be outside with us if we are hanging out there, if you approve us using that. Owners should bring their dog’s crate if it is crate trained or sleeps in a crate.
Reviews

A wonderful family and very welcoming and caring towards our dog!

Lyra & Scott were excellent, Bandit was well cared for. We would definitely use them again.

Rose loves staying with this family!

Our pup had a great time. Scott sent pictures and we felt totally comfortable and at ease leaving our dog for the day.
