Pet care experience

Sausage dog to Great Dane!

I'm a remote worker with a flexible schedule, which means I can commit properly to house sits. There's no rushing back and forth, and no leaving pets alone for long stretches. Since I work from wherever I am, your home and animals get consistent company and attention throughout the day. I grew up around animals of all kinds, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and more, so caring for pets isn't new to me, it's second nature. On the dog side specifically, I've got hands on experience across the full size spectrum, from sausage dogs to Great Danes, so whether you've got a lap sized companion or a gentle giant, I know how to look after them properly, from exercise needs to feeding routines and everything in between. I have my own car, so I'm happy to travel to sits further afield, handle vet runs or emergencies if needed. I also offer cleaning as an additional service ahead of your arrival home. I'm happy to provide references on request.

Doggy Day Care • Nov 29, 2022

Lucy was great with my Lab, took her out for a nice long walk and kept her entertained throughout the day. A few photos throughout the day helped keep my mind at ease as it was the first day with a new sitter. I had to reschedule due to a last minute change in my work, which was no problem. Lucy's experience, proximity to the park and how tired my Lab was when I got her home means I will definitely book again!

Schedule

I'm an active person, so pet care fits naturally into my day. I like to start with a walk before my working day begins, then fit in another towards the end of the day, adjusting timing and length depending on each pet's exercise needs. Throughout the working day itself, since I'm remote, pets have company and I'm on hand for feeding, playtime, or anything else that comes up.

Safety, trust & environment

Whether I'm in a pet owner's home or my own, my priority is keeping to the animal's normal routine as closely as possible. Changes in environment can be unsettling for pets, so I make a point of sticking to their usual feeding times, walk schedule, and any habits they're used to, rather than imposing my own. Before a sit, I like to go through everything with the owner: feeding amounts, any medication, behavioural quirks, vet details, and emergency contacts, so I'm fully prepared and know exactly what to do if something unexpected comes up. I treat the home with the same care and respect I'd want shown to my own, keeping it secure, tidy, and exactly as I found it. I'm happy to send regular updates and photos during a sit, so owners have peace of mind while they're away. And since I have my own car, I can get to a vet quickly if there's ever an emergency.

A typical day

A typical day starts with a morning walk before I begin work, giving whichever dog I'm looking after a good chance to burn off energy. Through the day, since I'm working remotely, there's plenty of company, short breaks for a game of fetch or tug of war, a bit of training or trick practice, or just a fuss and a cuddle between tasks. In the evening, there's another walk or play session depending on energy levels, then a relaxed wind down together, whether that's a snooze on the sofa or a slow sniffy walk to end the day. I like to keep things varied so pets stay mentally stimulated as well as physically exercised, not just the same routine on repeat.

Before a sit, it's really helpful for me to know: Feeding routine, including portion sizes, timings, and any dietary restrictions or allergies Medication requirements, if any, including dosage and timing Vet details and any existing health conditions Behavioural quirks, such as anxiety triggers, reactivity to other animals, or anything that startles them Exercise needs and limits, especially for older or younger animals Favourite toys, comforts, or routines that help them settle Any commands or cues they respond to Emergency contact details and a backup contact if the owner is unreachable Having this in advance means I can care for their pet exactly as they're used to, with minimal disruption while the owner is away.
