Pet care experience

Home from home

We have always had dogs coming in and out of our family for generations. Our family has welcomed dogs into our lives for generations. While we’re not professional trainers, we have years of hands-on experience looking after lots of different dogs and personalities. We understand that every dog is unique, and we take the time to make each one feel safe, comfortable, and loved. Whether your dog is energetic and playful or prefers a slower pace, we’ll provide them with plenty of care, attention, and affection while you’re away—treating them as one of our own. Our family is a house hold of 4 (2 adults (Matt and Lucy) and 2 children (Henry and Sophie).

If you’re lucky enough to have Lucy Rogers looking after your dog, there’s every chance they’ll come home fitter, happier, and wondering why you don’t provide quite as much entertainment. I’ve known Lucy for years, and she’s one of those people who animals instinctively seem to trust. She’s endlessly kind, brilliantly reliable, and has more enthusiasm for a muddy walk than most people have for a beach holiday. She somehow manages to strike the perfect balance between sensible and great fun—a rare talent in both dog walkers and humans. The Rogers household has always been full of warmth, laughter, and the sort of people you’d happily leave the keys with. Any dog in Lucy’s care will be treated as if it’s part of the family, complete with plenty of affection, attention, and the occasional conversation they’ll no doubt pretend to understand. If I ever needed someone to look after my own dog, Lucy would be my first call without a second thought. I’d know they’d be safe, well exercised, thoroughly loved, and probably a little reluctant to come back home—which, while mildly insulting, would also be completely understandable. Lucy is exactly the kind of person you hope to find on Rover: trustworthy, thoughtful, genuinely dog-mad, and someone who will care for your pet as if it were her own. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.

Lucy would be the ideal pet sitter. She gets up nice and early and lives a structured, wholesome, active lifestyle, with her days often filled with walks and outdoor activities. My dog has stayed with Lucy many times, and I can honestly say, hand on heart, she would move in with Lucy and her family in a heartbeat if she could! It’s clear how loved and well cared for she is every time she stays. Not only is Lucy the perfect person to look after your pet, but her home provides the ideal environment too. Your biggest challenge will be persuading your pet to come home afterwards—trust me, they won’t want to leave

Schedule

My husband (Matthew R.) works from home the days I work to make sure there is always someone available for our furry friends and children. Our day starts early often with a walk before 7am. We then walk the kids to school and back again. Then it is chill time if my husband is working before he takes a lunchtime walk. When I’m at home on a Tuesday and Thursday it’s hanging out with me when gardening. Then a lunchtime walk. Then more chores and pottering around before collecting kids and going to rec to play or back home to get ready for clubs. When kids are at clubs it’s walk time again for an hour whilst waiting to collect them from clubs. Equally if the dog is less energetic or elderly it will be sitting by the river watching the world go by and having tummy rubs.

Safety, trust & environment

Unfortunately we don’t have a dog currently as he sadly died. We are saving up for one. Our pets are very much part of our family. They will get plenty of exercise and love. They are allowed on the sofa in the kitchen but not upstairs unless clean and dry. We have a large hedged off garden and 2 children who will throw balls for hours.

A typical day

We are very much a busy active family. We spend most of our time outside. We love the water so tend to take the dogs to the river or the coast at weekends if time allows.
