Pet care experience

Dog-loving family

I've been around family dogs since I was a child, and finally got a fur baby of my own when I was 21 - a beautiful black labrador. I had him from a tiny wriggly puppy, and all through his senior years. Since he's been gone, we have missed him terribly but don't have the circumstances for another dog of our own just yet, so as a family we love the opportunity to spoil our friends' dogs with love, the odd (approved!) treat and adventures whenever we can. I have walked dogs of all sizes and dispositions and take great care in making them feel like they are at home when they stay with us. My husband, Adam, and I work from home on alternate days, so there will usually always be someone in, although it will predominantly be me caring for the dogs and walking them. We have 2 children aged 11 and 6, who love playing fetch, helping to groom and going for walks with dogs we have staying.

Schedule

My husband and I both work, but there is always at least 1 of us at home all day for play breaks, walks, snacks or cuddles. I work part time so can be more flexible to suit a dog's routine. We have 2 children aged 11 and 6 who love helping take care of dogs, and are very respectful of boundaries around them. They also have unlimited energy for playing fetch and hide and seek long after my battery has run out!

Safety, trust & environment

We don't have any pets of our own at the moment. We have a relatively small but secure back garden for loo breaks, fresh air, stick chewing and games of catch. We live right by the cycle path and can be walking through fields and countryside within 10 minutes from home.

A typical day

We are usually up with the lark so have been known to be on the first dog walk of the day by 6am before! We are happy to fit in a dogs routine into our own as far as possible around work days. There will be plenty of time for playing or going for a walk before school drop offs happen, at lunchtime, and in the evenings, when we usually go to some woods or a stream for somewhere more exciting. I'm a big fan of cuddles on the sofa once the children are in bed to wind down after a busy day.

Whilst there is almost always someone at home, there may be occasions when we are out for a couple of hours together, so let me know if your dog is not ok with being alone for a short time. I have not had vetinary training, but am very happy to take instruction if your dog needs anything in particular like medicines, or care. We can discuss any particular rules around off-lead walking, being near other dogs, travelling in the car if we go for walks further afield or any behaviours to be aware of.
